NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MOTOR VEHICLE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS (“NAMVBC”)

Ian Christman, Vice President

Ian Christman is the Registrar of Motor Dealers for the Province of British Columbia and the Privacy Officer at the Motor Vehicle Sales Authority of B.C. (VSA). He is responsible for dealing with dealer and salesperson licensing and adjudicating consumer complaints against dealers and salespersons under the provincial Motor Dealer Act and the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. Ian started with the VSA as the Deputy Registrar in 2008 assuming his current position in March 2012.

Prior to the VSA, Ian was a lawyer in private practice in areas such as administrative and regulatory law, constitutional law, commercial litigation including class actions, and employment law. Ian spent some 15 years at Canadian Tire, a national chain of stores with retail, automotive and full service garages. He was a manager in the service departments before being placed in charge of selecting the auto part assortment for the Greater Vancouver chain of stores. He left this position in pursuit of a career in law.

Ian obtained his Law degree from the University of Alberta, his Political Science degree from Simon Fraser University and a Diploma in Criminology from Douglas College. Ian supports the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation and volunteers his time with Access Pro Bono providing free legal advice. He has been active with the NAMVBC since February 2008.
