Action Plan by Year

Year 1: 2013-2014

Goal 1: Student Learning: Examine and improve educational programming to maximize student learning.

Plan: Set goals, assess student learning outcomes and promote continuous improvement.

Action Step:

1. Review programmatic responses to the accreditation self-study recommendations and suggestions pertaining to student learning and program improvement.

2. Review existing program assessments to improve student learning outcomes.

3. Establish assessment plan cycle and use results to improve student learning outcomes.

Time Start: Year 1

Duration: 5 Years

How will we know action is achieved: Student learning outcomes and assessments are articulated by program director, program coordinators and staff.

Goal 2: Student Retention/Enrollment Management: Effectively recruit and retain a population that aligns with STC Postsecondary mission statement and consistent with STC standards.

Plan: Increase standards for admission, examine current admission policies to attract higher level students, and continue to enhance the STC’s image in the community.

Action Step:

1. Expand efforts to identify and address factors that improve student retention/graduation rates. 2. Provide institutional financial aid opportunities to attract and retain qualified students.

Time Start: Year 1

Duration: Ongoing

How will we know action is achieved: Increase in applications from previous year, retention plan is initiated, factors that affect student retention are identified, financial aid is reviewed at all orientations and students receive a ‘financial aid” handbook.

Goal 3: Student Remediation: Effectively provide student services to meet the needs of the students

Plan: Enhance current and create new support services that strengthen student learning.

Action Step:

1. Review existing remediation plan that exists for PN program.

2. Establish remediation services for CDL and HE students.

Time Start: Year 1

Duration: Ongoing

How will we know action is achieved: Identify existing remediation plan and its effectiveness. Create support services for CDL, HE, and COMBO programs.

Goal 4: Community Outreach: Enhance existing and create new partnerships, OAC members.

Plan: Increase new learning experiences, increase number of OAC members maximizing educational opportunities.

Action Step:

1. Review programmatic responses to the accreditation self-study recommendations and suggestions pertaining to the PN program increasing OAC membership.

2. Expand efforts to increase STC’s image.

3. Improve communication with existing partners. Time Start: Year 1

Duration: 5 Years

How will we know action is achieved: Faculty is engaged in various community outreach efforts compared to 2012-13 program year. Discussion is evident at faculty meetings.

Year 2: 2014-2015

Goal 1: Student Learning: Examine and improve educational programming to maximize student learning.

Plan: Set goals, assess student learning outcomes and promote continuous improvement.

Action Step:

1. Continue to assess and support areas that contribute to student learning.

2. Identify new needs to support services that enhance student learning.

3. Provide faculty training promoting program improvement.

Time Start: Year 1 & Year 2

Duration: Ongoing

How will we know action is achieved: Student learning produces successful assessment results and faculty participates in PD activities promoting program improvement.

Goal 2: Student Retention/Enrollment Management: Effectively recruit and retain a population that aligns with STC Postsecondary mission statement and consistent with STC standards.

Plan: Increase standards for admission, examine current admission policies to attract higher level students, and continue to enhance the STC’s image in the community.

Action Step:

1. Enhance recruitment efforts to emphasize postsecondary programs.

2. Review current postsecondary programs admission policies.

3. Develop and begin to implement marketing strategies.

Time Start: Year 1 & Year 2 Duration: 4 Years

How will we know action is achieved: Retention rates improve after factors are addressed, admission policies reviewed and updated and new marketing strategies have been put into action.

Goal 3: Student Remediation; Effectively provide student services to meet the needs of the students

Plan: Enhance current and create new support services that strengthen student learning.

Action Step:

1. Provide staff professional development on teaching the adult learner.

2. Implement remediation services for CDL and HE students.

3. Implement tutoring if necessary.

4. Review PN retention rates and review current PN remediation plan.

Time Start Year 2

Duration 4 Years

How will we know action is achieved: PD activities are attended by staff, PD form is completed, support services for CDL and HE are identified based on students’ needs, and PN dropout rates decrease.

Goal 4: Community Outreach: Enhance existing and create new partnerships, OAC members.

Plan: Increase new learning experiences, increase number of OAC members maximizing educational opportunities.

Action Step:

1. Continue to expand efforts to increase STC’s image.

2. Review OAC meeting minutes and implement suggestions and strategies.

Time Start: Year 1 & Year 2

Duration: Ongoing

How will we know action is achieved: Comparison of past and existing OAC meeting minutes, and marketing plan to enhance image is being implemented as planned. Year 3: 2015-2016

Goal 1: Student Learning: Examine and improve educational programming to maximize student learning.

Plan: Set goals, assess student learning outcomes and promote continuous improvement.

Action Step:

1. Expand experiences that have been proven positively to impact student learning.

2. Teach and develop student responsibility for their learning.

Time Start: Year 3

Duration: Ongoing

How will we know action is achieved: Students continue to assess successfully, and begin to display responsibility for their success, i.e. improving study habits results in better test scores.

Goal 2: Student Retention/Enrollment Management; Effectively recruit and retain a population that aligns with STC Postsecondary mission statement and consistent with STC standards.

Plan: Increase standards for admission, examine current admission policies to attract higher level students, and continue to enhance the STC’s image in the community.

Action Step:

1. Review marketing strategies and expand those proven to recruit and retain students.

2. Continue to review and update admission policies.

Time Start: Year 3

Duration: 2 Years

How will we know action is achieved: Retention rates continuously improve. dropout rates decrease, review and revise admission procedure if applicable.

Goal 3: Student Remediation: Effectively provide student services to meet the needs of the students Plan: Enhance current and create new support services that strengthen student learning.

Action Step:

1. Continuously provide professional development.

2. Continuously review remediation plan and support services for all postsecondary programs.

Time Start: Year 1, 2 &3

How will we know action is achieved: Dropout rates decrease, positive student and staff survey resulting in increased satisfaction ratings.

1. Continuously expand efforts to increase STC’s image.

2. Continue to review semi-annual OAC meeting minutes and implement suggestions and strategies.

3. Continue to stress importance of community partnerships with staff.

How will we know action is achieved: Positive OAC member comments, new members at meetings, increased satisfaction ratings.

Year 4: 2016-2017

How will we know action is achieved: Staff continues to participate in PD activities, positive student and staff feedback, increased satisfaction ratings.

Goal 4: Community Outreach: Enhance existing and create new partnerships, OAC members.

Plan: Increase new learning experiences, increase number of OAC members maximizing educational opportunities.

Action Step:

1. Continuously expand efforts to increase postsecondary program enrollment.

2. Continue to review semi-annual OAC meeting minutes and implement suggestions and strategies.

3. Sustain effective suggestions and recommendations.

4. Continue to stress importance of community partnerships with staff.

How will we know action is achieved: Review past OAC meeting minutes and attest that staff has followed through with recommendations. Surveys’ results and new enrollees will confirm that efforts to improve image have been successful.

Year 5: 2017-2018

Goal 1: Student Learning; Examine and improve educational programming to maximize student learning.

Plan: Set goals, assess student learning outcomes and promote continuous improvement.

Action Step:

1. Examine data analyzing retention and graduation rates to understand impact of student learning outcomes and program improvement. 2. Implement programmatic responses to the accreditation self-study recommendations and suggestions.

Time Start: Year 5

Duration: 1 Year

How will we know action is achieved: Students’ grades have increased, retention rates have increased, dropout rates have decreased and there is evidence of student satisfaction.

Goal 2: Student Retention/Enrollment Management: Effectively recruit and retain a population that aligns with STC Postsecondary mission statement and consistent with STC standards.

Plan: Increase standards for admission, examine current admission policies to attract higher level students, and continue to enhance the STC’s image in the community.

1. Sustain the professional development opportunities that staff have deemed as helpful when providing support services that strengthened student learning.
