Course Description- This is a year-long course in which 10th grade students will be provided with an opportunity to expand and polish reading, writing, research, technology, listening, observing and speaking skills while studying a variety of genres in literature. Textbook- Literature Texas Treasures Course 5 Required Materials- (1) Composition notebook (1) Pocket Folder for handouts Wide ruled notebook paper for your folder Pens/pencils Grading policy- Each 6-week grade is made up of 60% daily work and 40% tests. Assignment Corrections- According to school policy, all missed questions on any graded assignment may be corrected for half-credit of question value. The whole assignment must be corrected and the student gets one attempt to correct. Plagiarism- According to school policy, no plagiarism of any kind will be tolerated. A grade reduction is allowed and that grade will be a Zero. Late Assignments- While completing assignments by the due date is the optimum goal, I know unforeseen situations arise which are uncontrollable. Therefore, I will accept late work with the understanding that the highest grade can only be a 70. Make-up work due to Absence- According to school policy, A student will be personally responsible for obtaining and completing all make-up work within the time frame of 1 extra day per day of absence. Cell Phone Policy- According to school policy all cell phones are supposed to be turned off during the school day. The ONLY time a phone can be used is with teacher permission for an educational purpose, or as a 504 accommodation. Class Standards and Expectations- Posted in the classroom and are susceptible to modification based on needs of class. Teaching Philosophy- The student is responsible for their learning. I create their opportunities to learn.
