Popular Culture of the 1920’s Research & Documentary Project

Objective: Working in small groups, students will create a documentary for the chosen topic of 1920’s popular culture. The topics will be the following:  Consumer Culture  Transportation (Automobiles, Planes, etc.)  Mass Media (Print, Radio, Movies, etc.)  Women (voting rights, ERA, job opportunities, famous women)  Dance and Music  Art and Literature  Sports  Prohibition

Requirements: 1. Students will gather information on their topic using a variety of sources such as their textbooks, library books, and the internet. Students will then create a documentary using iMovie. 2. The documentary should cover all of the information required on the notes page, as well as include extra information found in research, names of important people that relate to the topic and good visuals. 3. Use a combination of video clips and/or visuals found online and clips of yourself to create the documentary. Each group member should have a part in the documentary. 4. Each student will be required to type a 1 page summary of their topic.

Grading: 1. Presentation (15 pts.): The presentation within the documentary will be graded based on clarity, eye contact, knowledge of information, and participation.

2. Documentary (40 pts.): The documentary will be graded based on organization, visuals, video, layout, and accuracy/completeness of information.

3. Summary (20pts.) – The summary will be graded based on addressing all of the questions/topics on the notes. Total Points earned for this assignment will be 75. Each group member will be graded the same on the final product of the documentary. Your scores may vary depending on your presentation and your summary.
