Date Nationwide Commercial Script
Scene opens with the camera zoomed in as a man is putting catchup on a plate of fires. While friend is speaking the camera zooms out to show Peyton Manning sitting in a booth at a diner with a friend.
Friend: So, how’s retirement?
Camera turns to just include Manning.
Manning: Staying pretty busy actually.
Camera turns to show friend with a surprised expression on his face.
Friend: Busy?
Camera pans over the friend’s shoulder where a couple is sitting in the booth behind them. The woman leans over as she realizes Peyton Manning is in the diner. Quick camera shot is done looking back at Manning talking to his friend shot over the woman’s shoulder to get her view.
Woman: whispering Honey, look!
Man: The man glances behind him, and as he turns back to his wife, he sings his lines to the Nationwide theme song tune. Number 18 in the house.
As his lines are done the camera moves back to the wife.
Camera pans up and zooms into a waitress as she walks up to the table to deliver the couple’s food.
Waitress: Also sings her lines to the Nationwide song. Shot widens to show her dropping off the food. He comes in here every day. Camera moves over and zooms in to a confused looking Manning.
Manning: Uh
Camera shifts to the pick-up window of the diner. A waitress waits at the window. Behind the window in the kitchen we see a cook placing a plate on the counter.
Cook: Also sings his lines to the Nationwide song. Gets the same thing every time. Cook hits bell to signal the waitress to pick up the food.
Camera moves back to a close up of Manning with an exacerbated look on his face. As he begins to speak, the camera view widens to include more of the diner.
Manning: Ummmm, you know I can hear you, right?
Camera shot jumps back to the woman fidgeting and avoiding eye contact. The camera then jumps to a more zoomed shot of the cook in the kitchen with a confused expression. Camera shot then moves back to Manning in a close up.
Manning: Jokingly rolls his eyes as he sings his lines to the Nationwide theme song. You know I can hear you right?
Camera jumps back to the cook. The shot is another close shot.
Cook: There it is. Hits bell.
Camera shot changes back to the woman who is now happily making eye contact. Shot is primarily focused on the woman but wide enough the edges of her husband and waitress are visible. She puts her arms up in the goal symbol. Camera switches back to Manning where he is shaking his head.
Manning: I’ll be here all week.
Camera pulls back some off of Manning, so now his friend is also in the shot.
Manning Voiceover: For your many retirement needs, Nationwide is on your side. As the final lines are read, the following words rotate across the screen leaving Manning visible: retirement, banking, insurance and ends on the Nationwide logo. In the background Manning is motioning for the check. Student Name

Nationwide Insurance Persuasion Project
This first paragraph answers the questions provided on the assignment sheet. These are the five W’s and the target audience information. This paragraph should be at least 7 sentences, but it could be longer. You should probably include about 10 sentences to ensure that you thoroughly cover the material and earn all of your points. Each question is listed on your assignment sheet. If you lost it, there is a digital copy on the website. Be thorough with this project because it is a summative grade. You want to earn all of your points.
This second paragraph explains your print ad. You want to tell us what appeal that you are using. In this case, Nationwide used ethos because it stars Peyton Manning as their spokesperson. You should explain that to me. You should tell me who you are appealing to and why that would be successful. Additionally, you want to explain two publications in which this ad should appear to best reach your target audience. For example, the Nationwide ad could appear in Sport Illustrated because it features a football star and would likely reach interested parties. Additionally, the ad could appear in People Magazine because adults read that publication. Adults are more likely to have a family and need extra insurance. Consult your rubric to make sure that you answer all of the questions that you need to address in this paragraph in order to earn full credit for this section.
This third paragraph explains your commercial script. You will tell me the appeal you are using and explain how you used it. You will also tell me who you are appealing to and why your ad will be successful. You will then tell me three channels on which your ad will appear, just like with the print ad and the magazines. You will also tell me the time blocks in which it will appear.
For example, the Nationwide ad could appear in the evening when families may watch television. Consult your rubric to make sure you cover everything. These paragraphs are very important for your grade. Half of your grade is covered by these paragraphs. Be successful!
