Ingham County 4-H Council Meeting March 2010 Meeting called to order by Julie at 7:06 Pledges were done
Approval of Agenda: Susie made a motion to approve the agenda and Chuck seconded the motion.
A) Absences: Danielle Wagner, Rachel Parkhurst, Leah Carey, and Dakota Brown
A) Attendance: Debbie Miller, Suzie Chamberlain, Nancy McCowan, Charles Goeke, Betty Jo Nash, David Showers, Jackie Parkhurst, Penny Jezuit, Leanne Barnett, Julie Casper, Joann Kinney, Debbie Bingham, Sandy Carey, Ginger Kenny Sweet, Sandy Carey, Jennifer Mogyoros, Joshua Pennington Bill and Amy Ostrander
B) Secretary’s Report Chuck made a motion to accept the minutes and Jackie seconded the motion.
C) Treasures report: There was $2,107.83 in checking. Jackie made a motion to accept the report and Debbie B. seconded it.
D) Fair Board Report 1. There is an increase in the price of the wristbands to $5.00. Brothers and sisters can also buy their wristband for $5.00. 2. There will be a change in positions since Fred is retiring. 3. The beer tent will be address in many reports. 4. Then they discussed about where still life will be this year. Council was looking at what building is better because of leakage and the draft horses. The overall consensus was that the still life needs to be in a permanent area. This is so that grandparents and parents can find the projects easily.
E) Correspondence and Announcements East Lansing Fun Day is March 27. They need a booth set up. Lansing City Market is on April 3rd. There is the opportunity to show different things there. There was a thank you from Michigan Foundation for the money. There were concerns from a cat project member. o They thought that the show could be moved to a different time other than Monday in the Shirley Clark Pavilion. This would allow those who show goats, poultry, and sheep the ability to show cats also. o Then the idea was brought up the cat posters can be a possible idea next year. o There might be changes in the cat project area next year. F) 4-H Staff There will be a Real Mean Girls and Boys Workshop on March 31st. There are three PQA classes scheduled.
G) Ambassadors This group has not met. Teen leadership is this weekend and they will be recruiting at this event.
H) Committee Report
Participation Fee: There is still money in the account. There will be a workshop scheduled this weekend.
Fundraising: They did the quiet water activity. This group is looking at dates for a pancake breakfast. It will be April 25 at the Mason VFW Hall in Mason. They will need to set up and serve and take down. So there are two sign up times. The first is from 6:30- 10:00 and the second time is 10:00-2:30. The haunted house will be discussed at another date. We will not be working the Lansing Lugnuts game because of liability. We have signed up for Ag Expo again and that brings in $500.00 for the cleanup. The date for this event is July 23rd. National 4-H will have the paper clovers at TSC. They are looking at having a 5K and 10 K race.
Superintendent Selection: Entrepreneurship will be filled by Jackie. Chuck made a motion to have Jackie be the superintendent of entrepreneurship and Dave seconded the motion.
Food Booth They looked at repairs that need to be done. Nancy will set up a date to help repaint the food booth. They also talked about food changes and the reward system. Information will be in the clover leaf. Fund raising events will be sent on a card to the members who receive money from council. This group will meet in April again.
Awards: There was the mark of excellence ward. The two people that received the awards were Sara O’Daniel and Eric Mosser.
Volunteer Selection: Susie and Betty Jo interviewed 6 people. This needs to be finalized by June 1stand will be in the Community leader packet. Horse: The horse camp applications will come in.
Goat: There goat expo coming up. There were update changes to the goat show at the fair. Will meet in May.
Shooting Sports: Will met March 23 in this building The Fun Shoot is the 30th
Livestock Committee: They met Monday night. There are several sub committees Looking into scholarship ideas They want to utilize the funds to make improvements It was suggested the Livestock committee write grants to the 4-H council Participation fee committee for funding Other:
Silent Auction 4-Her’s can make a project from a still life project area to put into the auction. Jackie needs permission from council for Chuck and Nancy to take in the money and then distribute it to the kids. The bidding for the projects will close on Friday Aug 6. Chuck made a motion to accept this idea and Susie seconded the motion. o Concerns is if it needs fair board approval o If it will be in the online fair book.
Old Business Beer Tent See the hand out that Betty Jo presented.
New Business: Ideas on how to increase revenue for the fair. Split 4-H and the Carnival Have something similar to Ionia American Idol Biggest Loser/ Survivor Grandstand shows
Other Business: Thank You Susie for the food tonight!
Bill made a motion to end the meeting at 8:30 and Debbie B. seconded it.
