I JOHN 2: 1-2 Perfect Justice – Perfect Forgiveness T.B.C. 7/2/17
Intro: Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s Paper (“The 4 R’s” she speaks of will not remove the sin)
Today’s Text: I John 2: 1-2 v. 1 “My little children” – Very tender address from this elder Apostle,
and a reasonable thing to expect.
But think about what this might mean coming from a 32 year old as He addresses grown men!
John 13:33-35 This was etched into John’s heart forever! The flavor of this is all through his writings!
“that you may not sin” Aorist- “even one act of sin” (NOT living a course of sin)
“And if anyone does sin” Aorist- “even one act of sin”
( Not living like someone who never met Christ)
“advocate” Greek: Paracletos= “Someone called alongside to help” Legal term.
The counsel for the defense.
Ex. Funeral for a lawyer- “ A man that would represent himself in a court of law has a fool for a client!”
“Jesus Christ-righteous” No article (the) here; which stresses the quality of the person.
Ex. Art Dean- 50 years old - Had no eternal security till He saw
this verse and ,,,
Hebrews 7:25 “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him,
since He lives to make intercession for them.”
Art said,“It is not about if I am good enough to make it, it is about if He is good enough to take me there. His righteousness becomes mine.”
Saved by grace, held secure now by grace, and delivered safe into that eternal kingdom by grace.
v. 2 “and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins”
He satisfied the righteous standard of God’s holiness and purity by His death on the cross.
God’s forgiveness is based on justice. That judgement fell on Christ. Forgiveness does not ignore
the moral law but establishes it purpose, to let us see our need for a Savior.
“for the whole world” -enough done to provide salvation for everyone who is willing to turn to the Lord.
