Name: Stock Market Project Date: Picking Stocks

You just inherited $10,000 from your rich Aunt. You want to invest it to see if you can make even more money over a one month time period. Today you will pick 5 different stocks that you want to buy with the $10,000. You must split up the money so that you diversify your portfolio. What stocks will you buy? How much money will you spend on each stock?

We will revisit your stocks in 30 days to examine if you made any profits.

Directions: The goal of this project is to invest your money intelligently. Take your time to research stocks that you might be good investments (stocks worth more tomorrow than they are today!) After you think you found 5 good stocks, decide how you would like to allocate your money into those stocks.

A website that might help you get started is:

Now look up your stocks again and record the new price per share and calculate the new value of your investment. Compare the new value of your investment to the cost of purchase.

Here are a few formulas to help calculate some of the values on the table:

(Value of Investment) – (Cost of Purchase) = Net Profit

(Value of Investment) - 1 X 100% = Percent increase/Decrease (Cost of Purchase)

Stock Amount of X Price per = Value of Net Profit % Increase Symbol Shares Share Investment Decrease

Total Value of Total Net Profit: Total % Change Investments:

What is your percentage increase/decrease from your original investment?

Write a brief summary about this project (at least 1 paragraph). Include what you liked/disliked about the project. Would you change what you invest in? Would you change your allocation amount in each stock?
