NSA-APPROVED DESTRUCTION DEVICES

1. This is a listing of equipment which NSA has evaluated as meeting the requirements for routine destruction of classified and sensitive paper COMSEC material, including high tensile strength paper tape, paper-mylar-paper tape and plastic key tape. Any machine that was previously tested and could successfully destroy P-M-P to secure residue levels may not destroy plastic key tape. Some of the larger disintegrators may be used for the destruction of non-MOS technology printed circuit boards. NOTE: It is the machine operator's responsibility to periodically inspect the resulting residue of each material destroyed for compliance with the secure particle standards. As new media (i.e. plastic key tape) are introduced, some machines that were previously tested and could successfully destroy materials such as P-M-P to secure residue levels, may not destroy this new material.

2. This approval is informational and advisory only. The approval is based on an examination of residue and physical security evaluation of the equipment. Such factors as reliability, rate of wear, and frequency of parts replacement have not been evaluated; and NSA does not endorse manufacturer’s claims concerning these aspects. Hourly volume rates are estimates based on average rates for destruction of paper material and may vary depending on variety, volume, and loading.

3. Do not use devices in this listing for the destruction of microcircuits, floppy disks, hard disks, microfiche, microfilm, or other high density magnetic, optical, or reduction film material unless explicitly specified.

4. Much of the equipment identified in this listing is available from the GSA Federal Supply Schedule.

5. Devices in this listing which are identified as “No Longer in Production” may still be used only if the machines are in good working condition and can be properly maintained. Parts and service are typically available for at least five (5) years after production ends. Please consult your local service facility for the availability of service and parts for older equipment before accepting them for reuse.

6. Inclusion of an equipment in this listing does not constitute NSA or U.S. Government endorsement or lack thereof, of commercially available products. This listing is intended for use by elements of the Department of Defense, U.S. Government Departments or Agencies, U.S. Government contractors, and the listed manufacturers and distributors.
