2013 YEAR OF THE ITALIAN CULTURE IN THE U.S.A
SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED BY THE UNIVERSITY FOR FOREIGNERS OF PERUGIA
The University for Foreigners in Perugia together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Embassy in Washington offers 50 scholarships to attend Italian language and culture courses or teacher training courses at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. The University for Foreigners in Perugia is the oldest and most prestigious Italian institution engaged in pedagogy, research and diffusion of the Italian language and culture. The University for Foreigners in Perugia has always recognized strategic importance of the United States, has established long term cooperation with schools and universities in many cities across the USA and is proud to contribute to the celebration of the Year of Italian Culture in the United States with this important initiative.
The scholarships are divided as follows: • 25 scholarships for students who will take the 2013 AP Italian exam • 25 scholarships for teachers of Italian and for principals and school authorities in middle and high schools in the U.S.
Each month's scholarship awarded consists of: Free subscription to a course of Italian language and culture for the period of validity of the scholarship* Free membership for the period of validity of the scholarship for a refresher course for teachers (only for the teachers winning the scholarship) A net monthly sum of € 500.00 as partial contribution for the lodging expenses in Perugia. **
Requirements for students:
The scholarships are reserved for Italian or American students residing in the United States of America, ATTENDING ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES IN HIGH SCHOOLS, who will be taking the 2013 AP Italian exam.
Rules for participation Students interested in a scholarship to attend Italian language and culture courses at the University for Foreigners in Perugia must: 1. fill in every part the application form signed by their parents or legal guardian; 2. send the declaration of their school principal or the AP School Coordinator ; 2. send by e-mail the application and scanned statement (as an attachment) to both addresses: [email protected] and [email protected].
1 Requirements for teachers:
• The candidate must be an active Middle School or High School teacher during the academic year 2012/2013 who will be teaching Italian in 2013/2014. • The candidate must NOT be a native Italian speaker.

Principals interested in a scholarship to attend Italian language and culture courses or teacher training courses at the University for Foreigners of Perugia must: 1.fill in every part of the application form and the declaration of their school principal, 2. send by e-mail the application and scanned statement (as an attachment) to both addresses: scuola.washington @ esteri.it and scuola.sanfrancisco @ esteri.it. General Rules All the students’, teachers’ and school authorities’ applications must arrive no later than April 10, 2013. A Jury will draw the names of the winners. The communication will be sent directly to the winning students, possible alternate candidates and to their schools. The list of winning teachers and school authorities will be published on the Embassy and General Consulates websites on www.usspeaksitalian.org, on the Enti Gestori websites (see http://www.ambasciatawashigntondc.esteri.it/NR/rdonlyres/E98F8BE7-A151-4AD5-92B7- 5F4943EDF81D/21710/UfficioScuolaRete.doc) and on the University for Foreigners of Perugia website (www.unistrapg.it) within May 3, 2013. The winning students are required to submit a statement signed by the AP Coordinator teacher stating that they took/passed the exam. The scholarships can be used in 2013 and 2014
Scholarships will be given to the winners during an award ceremony that will take place at the Embassy of Italy in Washington D.C., connected via video-conference with other consular-diplomatic offices, in the presence of HE (His Excellence) the Ambassador or His Delegate, the President of the University for Foreigners of Perugia or one of His Delegates and arts and humanities representatives.

(For intensive summer courses, you will have to pay a minimum difference of 100 euros); ** Students of the University for Foreigners can dine at the University cafeteria, at a reduced price. Through the service “Cercaalloggio Umbria” they can enquire and arrange for accommodation (lodging) before arrival in Perugia. The lodging is certified by the Agency for the right to university study of Umbria .
