Job Title: Assistant Product Buyer and Information Controller

Department: Purchasing Dept. Reporting to: Warehouse Manager

Overall Purpose of Job:

 Responsibility for the integrity of the product database, and to assist in the purchasing of primarily book product for the Wholesale department and our network of 19 retail bookshops.  Involved in the central management of product information with a focus on the data required to purchase, market and sell primarily books and Bibles through multiple distribution channels.

Key Tasks:

 Dealing with product data on a daily basis, including the provision of key metrics and reports a. Product information arrives in various formats, including csv files, ONIX feeds, Excel etc. Some data import procedures are in place, but manual input and field mapping requires product knowledge in the making of decisions.  Working with the purchasing team on projects incl. supply of product for retail promotions.  Placing orders for a defined range of suppliers using the integrated computer system.  Managing schedules and email requirements to suppliers, and monitoring supplier performance.  Maintaining regular contact with publishers and suppliers (as part of a wider team).  Attending meetings with suppliers and publishers as part of the selection and listing of product.  Ensuring that suppliers deliver product to the agreed delivery dates.  Maintaining and interpreting data on departmental and product performance.

Core Skills:

 Experience of working in a purchasing department or supply chain environment.  Experience of working in a publishing environment.  Computer literate, particularly with good working level of Microsoft Excel.  A basic understanding of XML would be an advantage.  Well organised, methodical and capable of working to deadlines.  Strong administration skills with good attention to detail.  Numerate and literate, and able to work well across departments.
