He attended public high school at Booker T. 20 Washington, and he attended Midlands Technical College where 21 he earned a certificate in printing technology; and 22 23 Whereas, he retired January 16, 2006, as the Manager of Printing 24 Services from the Department of Mental Health where he worked 25 for thirty-four years; and 26 27 Whereas, Reverend Eppes has been pastor of Progressive Baptist 28 Church of Haskell Heights in Columbia for twenty-one years. 29 During those years the church initiated Boys Night Out at Bluff 30 Road Park and the Boys to Gentlemen Youth Ministry. The Boys 31 to Gentlemen Youth Ministry is presently involved in a project 32 collecting stuffed animals for the Children’s Emergency Clinic. 33 They will present the stuffed animals to the hospital officials on 34 June 10, 2006; and 35 36 Whereas, Reverend Eppes worked ten years with the Boy Scouts 37 of America serving as scoutmaster and unit commissioner. In 38 addition, he has served on the Midlands Human Resource 39 Development Commission, the Chamber of Commerce 40 Community Relations Council, and was appointed in January by 41 the Governor to the Richland County Recreation Commission; and
1 [5178] 1 1 Whereas, he is married to his lovely wife, Eartha, and they are the 2 proud parents of two daughters, Sharretta and Cartisha Eppes, and 3 one son, Charles Eppes, Jr., and one grandchild, Malaijah; and 4 5 Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to 6 publicly recognize and thank this wonderful man for a lifetime of 7 service to his church, community, and State. Now, therefore, 8 9 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 10 concurring: 11 12 That the members of the General Assembly commend the 13 Reverend Charles Eppes, Sr., of Richland County for a 14 distinguished thirty-four year career as a state employee and for his 15 faithful service as pastor of the Progressive Baptist Church in 16 Columbia for twenty-one years. 17 18 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 19 Reverend Charles Eppes, Sr. 20 ----XX---- 21
