Press release - from the economic development company for Hull

30th January 2009

New appointment strengthens Hull Forward Board

Carolyn Burgess, Chief Executive of translation and interpretation services firm Language is Everything has been announced as the newest member of the Hull Forward Board.

The appointment makes a valuable addition to the 14-strong Board and complements the already extensive range of experience and knowledge offered by the high-profile public and private sector representatives tasked with advising the Economic Development Company (EDC). Carolyn not only brings her knowledge of the private sector through the management of her own successful business but also her experience as Vice-President of Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce.

Operating at a city-wide level, Hull Forward builds on the successes of its predecessor Hull Citybuild to accelerate the city’s ambitious regeneration strategy and is one of the first Economic Development Companies (EDC) to be established in the country.

John Holmes, Chief Executive at Hull Forward, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Carolyn to our Board and very much look forward to receiving her input. Carolyn is an excellent example of a very talented, well- connected and highly motivated business woman who has shown tremendous commitment to Hull and the surrounding area, having successful relocated and grown her company here from Berkshire.”

He added: “I have every confidence that Carolyn’s significant business knowledge, professional experience and enthusiasm will be of great benefit, as will her dedication towards seeing the city succeed and prosper.”

Carolyn Burgess, Chief Executive of Language is Everything, said: "Hull Forward thinks big. The goal is for Hull to become a global economic hub: it's extremely ambitious, but, when you look at all the great things that have happened here in the past few years, it's a realistic proposition. The work of Hull Forward is tremendously important both for the city and the wider region, and I'm very excited to be a part of it."

Established in 1992, Language is Everything relocated all its operations from Slough to Howden in 2001. In 2008 the company became an official partner of the World Trade Centre Hull & Humber, which is located on Hull's new waterfront business district. Language is Everything provides a wide range of translation, interpreting, training and consultancy services to businesses and public authorities across the UK.
