WSNGA REGULAR MEETING JULY 7, 2014

A meeting of the Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association (WSNGA) was held at the Las Vegas Country Club on July 7, 2014. President Sue May called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m. Secretary Pat Cooper conducted a roll call. Oasis, Sun City Summerlin and Paiute were absent. State delegates Sherry Corsello, Linda Wade and Laurie Johnson and Committee Chair Sue deFrancesco were absent. A motion was made and seconded and the minutes of March 3, 2014, were approved. Treasurer Larren Buckley then gave her report. She announced that the financial reports were e-mailed to everyone and looking at the balance sheet, one can see that the organization is broke. The reason for this is that no money has been received from the SNGA. President May stated that Communications Chairman Ann Sundstrum could give a reason why when she arrived. (Note: When Ann Sundstrum arrived, she advised that Treasurer Buckley would have the SNGA check today.) Treasurer Buckley stated that she had transferred $1,000.00 to the checking account from savings.

Tournament Chair Sherry Jackson stated that the Senior Amateur was held on May 5 and 6 at Boulder Creek. Laurie Johnson won the gross division and Sharon Francia won the net division. She felt that everyone had a really good time even though the course was very windy one day. The Southern Nevada Amateur and Silver Cup qualifier was held on June 16 and 17 at Mountain Falls in Pahrump. There were 61 participants and the course was in excellent condition. For the tenth time, Laurie Johnson won the gross division and newcomer Tammy Starring won the net division. Nine gross and nine net were chosen for the Silver Cup. Vice-President Halina Vergiels commented that the chosen team was on our website. Chair Sherry Jackson felt that someone needed to write articles for the website and not just post the winners. Chair Jackson stated that she and Assistant Chair Doe Emes were trying to set up practice times for the Silver Cup but it is so hard. She thinks eventually that practice times need to be set up and people have to be available to play. A lengthy discussion was held on what could be done to have people practice more despite summer vacations and unavailability. Chair Jackson stated that the next Fun Day would be July 28th at the Las Vegas Country Club. There are 67 registered players and room for a lot more. She will send an e-mail out again. Another Fun Day will be in the fall – October or November – and we’ll try for TPC Summerlin.

Committee Chair Jackie Pierson reported on Team Play. She expressed appreciation to everyone who participated in team play and stated that the competition was really close. The winners were Red Overall – Boulder City (Red); Blue Overall – Sunrise Vista; Red Gross – Muni; Blue Gross – Revere; Red Net – Business Women; Blue Net – Red Rock. After the playoffs, the Overall winner is Boulder City Red, Gross winner is Revere and the Net Winner is Red Rock. Chair Pierson said that there were 13 teams scheduled for competition in 2015 with Sunrise Vista leaving. She said that she needed to know right away if any other club wanted to join or was planning to leave as it would impact the schedule. She also stated that next year will be the last year for she and Jan Hansen to be team play chairmen. Chair Hansen stated that things were set up at Cascata for the Team Play party. There will be an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start with WSNGA Regular Meeting July 7, 2014 Page 2 registration starting at 6:30 a.m. There will be a luncheon afterwards. She will be sending out directions and other information to those concerned. She thanked Ann for helping her facilitate arrangements and introducing her to Eric Dutt.

Chair Jan Hansen said that there had not been any course ratings since the last meeting. The schedule has been presented to and approved by the SNGA and should start again in the next couple of months. Communications Chair Ann Sundstrum reiterated that women are invited to participate in the SNGA events. She said that soon members could access the web and be eligible for discounts and benefits (our GHIN is through SNGA).

President May has received a final count of WSNGA members. We have 1,368 members in our Organization. We pay for 1,263 members. Treasurer Buckley will check out to see that this number is current.

Chair Jan Hansen discussed the proposed By-Law changes which were distributed to the officers and delegates. Chair Hansen read the proposed addition to Article V: Board of Directors Section 2: Voting. She read the proposed addition which allows the WSNGA to conduct business outside the regularly scheduled general meeting by e-mail to the delegates and officers of the business to be conducted. The secretary will keep track of the responses and report the results to the delegates and the Executive Board of the WSNGA. This Bylaw change was emphatically approved by the delegates and officers and the secretary will make the changes to the By-laws. The second change regards expenditures. At present, the Bylaws state that any charge over $100.00 must be approved by the Association. The Bylaws would raise this amount to $200.00. It was moved, seconded and approved that the expended funds be raised to $200.00 before authorization is needed by WSNGA.

Janet Weber discussed the First Tee events coming up. An e-mail was sent out asking for donations and it had a wrong address for her. She gave out her correct address and asked that checks be made payable to TFTSN. She stated that last year, almost $4,000.00 was raised. These donations are to cover costs for two important events for Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association. The girls will go to Walla Walla, WA for the Junior America’s Cup in late July and the Mary Cave Cup matches in San Diego in early August. Each team has four girls and one or two coaches. College coaches attend these type of events checking out potential scholarship recipients. She expressed appreciation for all the support the First Tee has been given by the community. President May was encouraged for Junior Golf when she attended a recent meeting of important golf promoters of the program. Also, Delegate Weber announced that a website for junior golfers will be available shortly. It will be www.SouthernNevadajuniorgolf.com.

Delegate Janet Weber stated that Southern Highlands wanted to join the WSNGA. A women’s WSNGA Regular Meeting July 7, 2014 Page 3 golf group has been formed and their Bylaws and a check have been sent in. President May stated that the Bylaws are in order. She called for a vote. It was moved, seconded and approved that Southern Highlands Women’s Golf Association be admitted as the newest member of the WSNGA.

President May announced that she and Treasurer Buckley had already discussed the Registered Agent item on the agenda and it is okay.

Next meeting date was set for September 22, 2014. Since Secretary Cooper will be out of the country from September 3 through September 27, Sherry Jackson will take the minutes. Jan Hansen announced that the Business Women will sponsor Jingle Balls at Tuscany on December 2nd.

With no further business to come before the group, the meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Patricia W. Cooper Secretary
