Fractured Fairy Tales: Your Assignment

Fractured Fairy Tales: Your Assignment

 Choose one of the fairy tales or children’s stories we listed/discussed in class  Brainstorm ways to “fracture” and twist the classic version • But don’t get too far from the original  Fill out the plot provided diagram, outlining the events of your story  Draft and polish your short story, being sure to include at least three of the key elements of a fairy tale: • Magical and fantastic elements/ characters • Conflict and suspense: Focus the plot on a problem or conflict that needs to be solved. • The Rule of 3: May include places, objects, characters, or events in threes. • Set in the past—usually significantly long ago. May be presented as historical fact from the past. • Typically incorporate clearly defined good characters and evil characters. • Often have happy endings, based on the resolution of the conflict or problem. • Usually teach a lesson or demonstrate values  Your story should also include the following elements of a short story: • Dialogue: This will add voice and personality to your characters. • Vivid description, imagery, and figurative language: This will add interest and give your story a literary quality.  Format your story in the following way: • Title: Top, centered, size 12 font • Name: Underneath title, no last name listed, centered, size 12 font • Body of story: size 12 font, left justified , paragraph breaks used, new paragraphs used with dialogue, double-spaced  Length: Your story should be at least 2 typed, double-spaced pages  Illustrate your fairy tale by creating a book cover for your version of the story. • Your cover should creatively depict one of the following options: . A scene from your version of the story . A portrait of the main character(s), highlighting how your story is different (Remember the cover of the “Three Little Pigs” fracture we read?) . Your own idea (get this approved first!) • It should also include your title, which should be a twist on the original or different all-together • Use at least an 8.5” X 11” piece of non-lined paper. Colored paper or construction paper works better than regular computer paper. Your image and title should cover the paper. • Your cover MUST be in color. You may draw, make a collage, use computer graphics, make it 3D in some way, etc. BE CREATIVE!!!
