Homeopathy Comes Home - the newsletter Issue Number Two – December 2011, from Thelma West - Editor
Welcome to the second issue of “Homeopathy Comes Home” – the newsletter about making homeopathy accessible to homeless people.
Claire Brockwell and I have been working as homeopaths at hostels run by St Mungo’s. Claire has been running a fortnightly clinic at a women’s refuge since April. She is welcomed enthusiastically by manager and residents, who are always keen to know when Claire is coming in next.
In October, I began work at Barnsbury Road hostel for men and women. The clinic there also runs fortnightly with an average of five residents visiting the clinic each time so far. Everyone has been very helpful, with residents helping with time-keeping, appointments etc. In December, I made my first visit to Pagnell Street, where a clinic is now planned to run fortnightly on alternate Thursdays. Staff and residents were welcoming and interested.
Welcome to Judit Weegmann. Judit and I got talking at one of the St Mungo’s volunteer social evenings, only to find that we both qualified as homeopaths at the London School of Classical Homeopathy, in Judit’s case, fourteen years ago. Judit already volunteers as a cranio-sacral therapist at The Wellbeing Centre, Radcliffe Gardens, Earls Court. She expressed an interest in extending this work into the field of homeopathy, and is now accompanying me at various hostels. Her experience has proved invaluable, and our discussions about how things should be done usually carry on after we leave.
Early in 2012, I hope to visit a hostel in Harrow Road to discuss the possibility of setting up a new clinic. We are still using the funds kindly donated to us early in 2011 by the Homeopathic Action Trust, with a view to applying to various trusts next year, and offering to set up a new clinic each time we are able to guarantee at least one year’s funding for it.
Any help, advice or support regarding funding is greatly appreciated. Donations of any size are welcome. Thelma may be contacted at 12, Acre Close, Rochester, Kent ME1 2RE Tel: 01634 409658. Email:[email protected]. The project has now been set up as a small charity, and a new bank account applied for, under the name “Accessible Homeopathy”. I ran a book sale from home in August and raised almost £500, which has provided a helpful stopgap.
Much thanks to all who have helped to keep us afloat – this time, especially to my new and very helpful committee! Watch this space for further news of homeopathy working at St Mungo’s. We wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year and look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, from Thelma West and all at “Accessible Homeopathy”
