MEMORANDUM FOR APPLICANTS

SUBJECT: Saint Cloud High School Army Junior ROTC Juni Albino Memorial Scholarship

1. The Saint Cloud High School Army JROTC Department is now accepting applications for the Annual Army Junior ROTC Juni Albino Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes an individual cadet(s) who has displayed scholastic excellence, leadership, determination, and dedication to our JROTC program, school and community. Deadline for submission is February 3, 2017.

2. The Army Junior ROTC Juni Albino Memorial Scholarship will be presented at the Annual Awards Ceremony. The Army Junior ROTC program recognizes the importance of post secondary opportunities and the rising cost associated with college expenses. The Army JROTC program’s goal is to present a monetary scholarship to a deserving college bound senior cadet(s) who aspires to promote the same drive and inspiration in others. This year, there will be two scholarships awarded in the amount of $500 each.

3. Your application is critical in us awarding the best recipient and continuing our mission; “to motivate young people to be better citizens.” Please fill out the enclosed forms and ensure you follow all the instructions carefully. We appreciate your interest and desire to continue your education. We hope our scholarship will help make a difference in the quality of life for one cadett who might not have been able to afford college.

Guidelines for Scholarships

Scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving, senior cadet who has been accepted into an accredited college or university.

Selection Process

Selection of cadet for award will be made by a committee made up of the following members as available:

Juni Albino Family Members (if available) JROTC Senior Army Instructor SCHS Staff or Faculty Member (if available) Sponsor Member (American Legion Riders Club) (if available)

Awarding of Scholarship(s)

Committee will meet no later than end of February/March for scholarship selections. Presentation of scholarship awards will be made by Education Foundation – Osceola County and a JROTC representative to nominees during Education Foundation Awards Ceremony and JROTC Annual Awards Night. Appropriate publicity will be provided to community media outlets.

Prerequisites

Students interested in applying for the Juni Albino Scholarship should demonstrate the following:

1. Interest in pursuing a career in post secondary education in any field of endeavor.

2. Member of the JROTC Program and in the Graduating Class.

3. Grade point average 3.0 and above (recommended, but not required).

4. Has met all graduation requirements.

5. Has been accepted to an accredited college/university (includes JUCOs).

6. Possesses high degree of Character.

7. Participation in school and community activities.

8. Submit a resume, with picture, of Awards, Honors and Accomplishments received.

9. Short essay, <300 typed words: Why I Desire This Scholarship. 10. Demonstrate a financial need and/or hardship.

INSTRUCTIONS:

You will submit a Portfolio for the Selection committee that contains the following items:

1. Cover Sheet 2. Resume with all honors, awards, activities. 3. Character Profile (examples are letters of recommendation, Citizen awards, Letters of Commendation, etc) 4. High School Transcript with current GPA and Rank in Class 5. Colleges Applied to and Accepted. 6. Short paragraph (<300 words): “Why I Desire This Scholarship”.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION: The 2017 Juni Albino Memorial Scholarship Application must be submitted to Education Foundation-Osceola County, No Later Than February 3, 2017. Awardees will be notified during the Education Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony and the JROTC Awards Night in the SCHS Auditorium.

SELECTION OF AWARDEE: The selection of the best overall cadett for the scholarship will be based on the following:

1. Academics - 50%; includes unweighted GPA, Rank-in-Class, and ACT/SAT scores. 2. Leadership – 30%; includes leadership positions, in school and co-curricular activities and sports participation, clubs, organizations, and volunteering. 3. Character – 10%; includes Character Profile, Letters, Awards, Commendations, etc. 4. Essay – 10%

RECEIPT OF FUNDS: Receipt of Scholarship is contingent on student being accepted and enrolled in an accredited post secondary educational institution. After Scholarship Awardees is selected, the student will provide proper tax and district forms from bookkeeper and enrollment letter from school Registrar with course load. After these items have been submitted, the Education Foundation make funds directly to students college bursar account.
