Meeting: February 21, 2007

Present: John Hjelle, Yvonne Kulman, Mary Holthaus, David Bakken, Kathy Bakken, Doug Eckheart, Kent Kleckner

Discussed:  Reviewed and discussed Quad Cities Juried Public Art Competition and Exhibition  Met with Bruce Williams via teleconference from the Iowa Arts Council o Honey Creek project – public art/sculpture for $250,000 o Coon Rapids streetscape project - $250,000 project involving streets and landscaping, etc – Coon Rapids created a design team (architect, artist, landscaper) o Talked about placement of sculpture/art – bridges, rest areas, overlooks o Dubuque does rotating art as well as CF/W’loo o Thought that Edwin Ritts from Dubuque Museum would be a good resource for us o Artist could design benches, rest areas and shelters o Incorporating art into existing features (bridges, benches, lights, shelters) o Discussed having “objects placed in an environment” verses, “Art integrated into the environment.” o It will cost money for our artist(s). Due to the size of our project ($100,00), we may be limited to a smaller radius of artist due to the cost of travel and shipment of sculpture. o Encourage getting assistance from outside, encouraged us to contact Edwin Ritts from Dubuque. o Bruce will assist in reviewing RFQ/RFP, but won’t write it for us. o “Get right artist in the right location”

 The group is leaning toward being our own design team due to the diverse nature of the talents of the group, but likes the idea of getting some outside input.  Discussed dialing in David Kamm on some future meetings via teleconference

Action items  Send trail information to Bruce Williams so that he can prep for meeting o DVD o MAP o Background o David K’s “Call to artists”
