Design Your Own Business Project

ECONOMICS 12 NAME ______DESIGN YOUR OWN BUSINESS PROJECT

In this project, you will design your own business, making economic decisions using the knowledge you have learned in Economics class. Consider what elements will make your business successful.

Your answers must be typed on a separate sheet of paper.

1) What kind of business are you starting and why did you choose it?

2) Will your business be a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation? Explain your choice and also explain the advantages and disadvantages of your type of business organization.

3) Where will your business be located? Find the address and print out a map showing it’s location. Why did you choose your location? (Note: your business must be located in the Rochester area. For our purposes, you may use an address of an existing business.)

4) What product or service will you provide? Why do you think your business will be successful?

5) Who are your competitors?

6) Design an advertisement for your business. It must be computer generated, you may use any software you wish. (Note: it is graded on completeness rather than artistic or computer ability. For example, did you include your address and phone number, map to your location and incentive (coupon or discount?)

7) Will you have employees? If so, how many and how much will you pay them? What educational requirements do the employees need? Explain why you will pay them the wage rate (money) you decided upon.

8) What benefits (if any) will you offer your employees? (Health insurance, pension plan, discounts etc.) Why is it important for many businesses to offer benefits?

9) Create a PowerPoint that explains to the class your business. You will submit the PowerPoint to me and use the PowerPoint in your 2 minute presentation. Design Your Own Business Project Checklist 2012

What must be completed by Tuesday April 17th at the beginning of class:

1. All answers must be printed out and handed in to me.

2. Your PowerPoint must be sent to the digital drop box. Alternative presentation systems such as Prezzi are acceptable. Access information such for Prezzi must be sent to the digital dropbox on time. Late projects will lose 1 letter grade per day late. Remember, your presentation must be at least 3 minutes and preferably longer.

3. Your PowerPoint or similar document should be immediately available the day you are presenting. This means on of the following:

1) having your PowerPoint ready on a flash drive 2) having you PowerPoint ready in your school folder. (We can access it without you having to logon). 3) Accessing your Prezzi or PowerPoint quickly from the web.

A letter grade will be deducted if you have to open up an email to get an attached file since that takes time away from the class! Don’t do it!

Tuesday 3/17 and Wednesday 3/18 according to alphabetical order.
