The Legacy of Rome
Introduction: Although the Roman Empire collapsed centuries ago, Roman ideas in the areas of technology, transportation, entertainment, language, art, and architecture continue to influence us today. Your task will be to produce a poster or powerpoint that illustrates and explains an item from ancient Rome that shows their innovative abilities and/or use of technology.
Task: Research a topic and create a poster (size 14” by 20”) that will be presented to the class. Be prepared to explain the technology used. All sources of information must be cited properly as well as any pictures used. Some class time will be provided for working on the project.
Step 1: Get a folder for all work. Select a topic (done in class) and do some preliminary research to focus the topic. When you have narrowed the topic, write a brief statement to me that explains the purpose of your poster or powerpoint. You must present research with your statement that will indicate you have some knowledge about the topic because you have done some research. I will approve your topic or help you to improve the topic if necessary.
Step 2: Research your topic. You should have multiple sources. Those sources must be identified with appropriate citations on a bibliography you will submit with your poster. All pictures that you take from sources must be cited with the picture so make sure you have the source information. In your presentation, you MUST include information that indicates how Rome has influenced us today so make sure you include this in your research. You will need pictures and illustrations as well as information.
Step 3: Write a draft of each explanation you will use on your poster or in your powerpoint. Sketch a draft of your poster or do a slide guide for your powerpoint. Where will you use an illustration? Where will you provide an explanation? Remember, the presentation should be as visual as possible so words should be limited and all explanations must be in your own words.
Step 4: Complete final product in class. Your presentation should be attractive, neat, and complete which means we will be able to learn something from your poster BEYOND WHAT WAS IN YOUR BOOK, DISCUSSED IN CLASS OR SEEN IN THE VIDEO. Your presentation must show something about Rome that we can relate to today. You should be able to answer any questions about your presentation. All pictures must be labeled with the source of the picture as well as necessary explanations. SELF ASSESSMENT MUST BE COMPLETED.
DUE DATES: Step 1-11/12, Step 2-11/22 Step 3-12/5 (If you have this done early, submit it to me so you can go to Step 4.) STEP 4-December 13, 2012.
