1. Applications are only being accepted for students in grades 3-5 at Bellview and Pleasantview Elementary, grades 9-10 at East Detroit High School and grades 9-12 at Kellwood Alternative School. 2. The buildings available for Schools of Choice students and the number of spaces in each building will be determined by East Detroit Public Schools. 3. All applications will be screened for accurate information. This may involve contacting the former school district. 4. Your acceptance is conditional until East Detroit Public Schools receives and reviews all school reports. 5. East Detroit Public Schools’ registration process for students accepted through Schools of Choice must be completed by September 7, 2012. If students are not registered by that date, East Detroit Public Schools will assume that the application for Schools of Choice has been withdrawn. 6. If your child is currently eligible for special education programs and services and you reside outside of Macomb County, please be aware that East Detroit Public Schools is required by state law to obtain a cooperative agreement regarding reimbursement for special education costs from your resident district before we can register your child in our school district. (MCL § 388.1705c(19)). 7. If you reside outside of Macomb County and your child is found to be eligible for special education programs and services after admission to East Detroit Public Schools, please be advised that East Detroit Public Schools is required by state law to obtain a cooperative agreement regarding reimbursement for special education costs from your resident district in order for your child to remain in our school district. (MCL § 388.1705c(19)). 8. Once registered, students may remain in East Detroit Public Schools until graduation if the student complies with all guidelines for Schools of Choice and the East Detroit Public Schools’ Student Code of Conduct. The only exception is cited in (7) above.

Discipline Criteria for Schools of Choice Applicants Applications cannot be accepted from students who do not meet the following discipline criteria: Students in grades K-8 shall have no more than three suspensions for the previous school year, resulting in no more than 15 days out of school. Students in grades 9-12, not including alternative education students, shall have no more than two suspensions for the previous school year resulting in no more than 10 days out of school. Alternative education students in grades 9-12 shall have no more than three suspensions for the previous school year, resulting in no more than 15 days out of school.

Attendance Students are expected to arrive and depart school on time, in accordance with the East Detroit Public Schools’ Attendance Policy and Student Code of Conduct. It is expected that parents will pick up students on time when they are attending an after school or evening event. Student Code of Conduct All Student Code of Conduct rules, procedures, and policies will apply to all students who enter East Detroit Public Schools under Schools of Choice.
