Business Arising

Anatomy Teaching

The first year students that are not involved in dissection will be working with Dr. McKague and the Professional Skills (MED 105.8) course to do some extra practice in physical exam and surface anatomy. There have been other talks about vertical integration with the department heads. This item is moving along.

New Business

Report from the Student Competencies and Assessment Sub- Committee (Peer assessment on professionalism)

This committee and the sub committee on student assessment has been working on the assessment of peer professionalism. Dr. D’Eon spoke with Dr. Linassi and they are working to implement this and make it happen on a pilot project bases. They are hoping to have this pilot up and running by late April early November for the second year class and in the winter for the first year class.

The department of sociology has a research unit and they will be contracted to conduct the survey and do the reporting and provide the college of medicine with anonymous de-identified data.

Genetics Course for First Year

Dr. Linassi received an e-mail from Dr. Lemire addressing concerns that he had re: deferral of implementation for fall 2010. Dr. Lemire does not want to defer the course for a year – Dr. Linassi left the decision up to Dr. Lemire if he wanted to teach the old course or the new course. Dr. Lemire is to let Kelly Mulligan know what he will do.

Introduction to Clinical Sciences Re-Organization

This item is deferred to the October meeting.

Setting Cut Scores

Dr. D’Eon has spoke with Dr. Linassi about implementing this process. The idea was to do exam audits with Phase B and C Systems. It was brought up that maybe systems would not be the best course to do the audit in because the structure of the making.

Form and Function (MED 106.19) has a cut score in place of 70% for each module. There is already a team in place of clinicians that would able to help with this.

Dr. D’Eon suggested that we could contact some of the systems to do the review and get some response back from them to see if it works. Dr. Chizen offered to have her course of Female Reproductive involved.

Nutrition Presentation

Dr. Louise Gagne gave a presentation to the committee regarding the first year nutrition course. After the presentation Dr. Gagne fielded questions from the committee members.

Program Evaluation

Goals and Objectives Project

The class of 2009 and 2010 have completed the self assessment online. What has been put together is a report which shows how much the students think they have achieved on all of our goals and objectives in all the different areas. There are different staring points and different end points and this report will give us an idea how the program has contributed to their training and development. The reports will be considered first by the program evaluation committee shortly and then will come to this committee. 2 Class of 2009 LMCC Results analysis

Almost all of the class of 2009 gave us permission to access their LMCC results for part I. This allowed us to look at their marks through med school, compare them to the LMCC marks and to see how the med school marks correlate with their LMCC marks. This report will be coming to us as well. The phase C marks were the most closely correlated and were the best predictors of part I.

Vertical Themes re-organization

With the information that came out of the June retreat, Dr. D’Eon suggested that we could organize our vertical themes around some of these roles that we have.
