Possible EOC Test Prep Interventions
How can we help our Academic English I students pass the EOC? Brainstorm a plan to implement each of these interventions into your classes.
1. Incorporate “Higher Level Order Skills” to daily student tasks
2. Conduct short daily review sessions of EOC material
3. Require students to read text assignments before class discussions and require students to review notes immediately after lectures and discussions.
4. Use research based teaching strategies with students
5. Allow students to “review with a group” as a regular study session in class to promote more discussion with peers about content.
6. Help students identify their weaknesses prior to the test. Conduct a major review early enough before the test to allow students to meet with you to seek extra help for EOC weaknesses.
7. Break up study/review tasks into manageable chunks for students
8. Present the most difficult material at the beginning of the period and AGAIN at the end of the period as a review daily.
9. Review the Standard Course of Study and match each assigned task for students as a PLT
10. Using data to indicate focused weekly reviews
***Please choose 6 of the 10 that you can commit to implementing for the entire spring semester by circling them. Next month, we will discuss what worked well and what did not as a PLT.
