To be held at the Chestnuts Community and Arts Centre, 280 St Ann’s Road N15 5BN Intentionally left blank What is happening at the Chestnuts Community and Arts Centre? For many years, the Chestnuts Community Centre has been at the heart of the local community, with community and voluntary groups providing valuable services and activities for residents. During the last few years, the building’s condition has deteriorated and now requires significant repair work to make it fit for purpose again.

In July 2014 following a Court agreement, the Chestnuts Management Committee agreed to hand back the keys and management of the building to Haringey Council on the 31st December 2014. The Council had planned to temporarily close the centre for building improvement works and refurbishment.

However, after meeting with and listening to the centre’s users, the Council has reconsidered its plans. The Council has agreed to put in place temporary management arrangements to make sure the day-to-day activities at the centre continue. Any temporary closure of the building to undertake urgent repair work (for health and safety reasons) will be kept to a minimum and as much advance notice as possible will be given.

What is the Council’s aspiration for the future of the community centre? The Council is committed to keeping the community space for local community and voluntary organisations, providing high-quality space for clubs, activities and meetings. These commitments are set out in its Voluntary Sector Strategy 2011-16.

With this in mind, we are seeking to develop an innovative model for a well managed, modern community space with first-class facilities and expanded opportunities at the heart of the community.

Public consultation We want to hear from people who:  currently use the centre;  have used the centre in the past;  those that do not currently use the centre but would like to; and those who  have an interest in the future of the centre

We want to find out what services and facilities they would like to see in the new community space and for them to contribute their ideas to its design. This group of people are called stakeholders as they all have an interest in the centre. The timetable for this consultation period is as follows:
