To access the student home folders for your school:

1. On the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on Go.

2. Click Connect to server… (Or use the shortcut keystroke: Applekey-K)

3. In the Server Address line, type without the quotes, “smb://home1/students$”, for example for staff at Anderson High School: "smb://home1/andersonstudents$". Your school name will be only letters and all lower case, one word. So, for example, "Highland Park" would use "highlandparkstudents$" and "St. Elmo" would use "stelmostudents$".

*NOTE: Remember to replace the server name home1 with home2 if your campus is located south of the river (campuses who’s student use the POLLUX domain).

4. Click Connect.

Making an alias to a students home directory:

1. After connecting to the students share using the directions above, click on a student folder.

2. Drag the student folder to the desktop, but do not release the mouse button just yet.

3. While still pressing the mouse button, hold down both the Apple and Option keys on the keyboard at the same time.

4. Release the mouse button first, then the Apple and Option keys. You should now have an icon on the desktop with the little black arrow on the bottom left. This signifies that it is indeed an alias.

5. If the black arrow is not located at the bottom left of the newly created icon, then the folder was probably copied to the desktop on accident. Repeat steps 1 and 2, remembering to hold down both the Apple and Option keys BEFORE releasing the mouse button.

6. You can arrange the aliases on your local desktop however you like, double-clicking the alias will take you to that students home folder.
