To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Stephanie Luger. I am a junior at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, although I am from Minneapolis. I am majoring in Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought (LJST), focusing on International Human Rights. I am writing to request a position as a summer intern with Congressman Keith Ellison.

At Amherst, I have taken courses that have deepened my interest in and understanding of Human Rights issues. These courses include: Social Organization of the Law, Nazi Germany (History), Law, Speech and the Politics of Freedom, and Apartheid.

Last summer, I served as an intern in the Washington, D.C. offices of J Street.

This fall, I studied abroad at the Rothberg International School at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I had an eye-opening experience both inside and outside of the classroom. At the Rothberg School, I took classes that gave me many perspectives on the Arab/Israeli conflict. These courses included: Emergence of the Modern Middle East, International Law as it relates to the Arab/Israeli Conflict, and The Israeli Legal System. Beyond the classroom I participated in J Street U Jerusalem events and traveled to the West Bank twice. I traveled first with MN Representative Frank Hornstein and Peace Now Settlement Watch Director Hagit Ofran. Later in the semester I participated in the Bethlehem Encounter program.

Outside of the classroom, I am involved in many organizations on campus including Change 4 Change and Amherst College Jew Crew. Change 4 Change is a charity organization that collects spare change on campus and provides the funds collected to a local charity. At the start of this semester, I joined a group of friends to launch a Jew Crew, a new group on campus. We began this initiative because we feel as though Amherst College has a large Jewish population but no cohesive community. The mission of Jew Crew is to bring together Amherst Jews from all ends of the political, religious and cultural spectrum.

I am available this summer from mid-May through mid-August. Enclosed is my resume. I can be reached by cell phone or email.
