Preoperative Patient Information

Before the Surgery  Get a good night’s rest  Wash the surgical area with Hibiclens antimicrobial skin cleanser daily for the 3 days before the procedure (available as an over the counter liquid soap in pharmacies)  Continue your blood thinning medication (aspirin, Coumadin / warfarin, Plavix) IF it was prescribed for you by a doctor.  Stop aspirin 2 weeks before the procedure if you take it for prevention without a doctor’s recommendation

On the Day of Surgery  Take all of your regular medications, as usual (except as above)  It is alright to eat a light breakfast  Bring someone with you to drive you home  Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time  Expect to remain with us for up to 3 hours  Do not bring young children with you  Notify us if you: . Are allergic to any of the following:  Lidocaine anesthetic, Betadine, iodine, Bacitracin or Polysporin . Tend to feel faint or have passed out during medical procedures . Have a pacemaker

After Surgery  Leave the dressing in place for 24 hours unless it becomes saturated  Plan to go home and rest. We advise that you do not return to work on the day of surgery  Do not bathe or submerge the site in water for 24 hours  Plan to avoid any strenuous or aerobic activities for at least 48 hours o For face and scalp excisions, avoid stooping, bending or lifting  We suggest avoiding air travel for at least 5 days after the excision  Avoid any medications that promote bleeding such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve  Expect some post-operative pain: treat with Tylenol  Minimize smoking and do not drink alcohol for 48 hours  Do call me with questions or concerns
