Only those who have experienced the miracle of the new birth know the difference between professing Christ and possessing Christ. Gene Harmon, pastor Rescue Baptist Church, Rescue, CA ------
Christ “filleth all in all” (Eph 1: 23) John Gill wrote, “which may be understood either more extensively; for he fills both worlds with inhabitants; he fills all places with his omnipresence, and all creatures with proper food and sustenance: or with a limitation to the church and people of God; he fills all his churches and ordinances with his gracious presence; and he fills the various societies of his saints with members and with officers; and these with the gifts and graces of his Spirit, suitable to their place and station; he fills all and every of the saints, all the vessels of mercy, whether greater or lesser, all sorts of them, of larger or meaner capacities; he fills all the powers and faculties of their souls, their hearts with joy, their minds with knowledge, their consciences with peace, their wills with spiritual desires, submission and resignation, and their affections with love to himself and people: in short, he fills them with all grace and goodness, and the fruits of righteousness; and so makes them meet for usefulness here, and for happiness hereafter.” ------
CHRIST INSTRUCTS THROUGH THE GOSPEL
Christ is Head of the church. He “filleth all in all.” (Eph 1: 22-23) Each time the gospel is preached in spirit and in truth it is Christ teaching and filling his people through the gospel. (2 Cor 5: 20; Mt 18: 20) It is humbling to have to sit, listen and wait on Christ to teach us through his gospel. But that is one purpose for which “it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1 Cor 1: 21, 27-29) Men may want all questions answered now but there are no Cliff’s Note shortcuts for the doctrine of grace. Yet, all who our Head gives grace to assemble under the preaching of the gospel find that in his time Christ answers all questions. And the answer is Christ who “filleth all in all.” ------
Believers do not wear the yoke of the Law (Rom. 6:14; Gal. 4:18), however they do wear the yoke of the Lord Jesus Christ, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:25-28). I refuse to wear the yoke of works religion and law, but I gladly receive and wear the yoke of my Lord. The yoke of the law is impossible to bear (Acts 15:10). But His yoke is easy, delightful and no burden at all. What does it mean to the believer to be yoked, and joined to Jesus Christ? Consider these scriptural truths: To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be at rest in Him (Heb. 4:10-11). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be one with Him (John 6:57). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be found in Him (Phil. 3:7-9). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be justified by His blood (Rom. 5:9). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be led by His Spirit (Rom. 8:14). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be taught by His Word (John 6:44-45). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be translated into His kingdom (Col. 1:13). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be filled with His love (1 John 3:14). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be called by His gospel (1 Cor. 1:21-24). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be saved by His grace (2 Tim.1:9). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be adopted into His family (Rom. 8:17). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be regenerated by His Spirit (Eph. 2:1). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be forgiven of all your sin (1 John 1:7). To be yoked to Jesus Christ is to be accepted in the Beloved (Eph. 1:6).— Tom Harding, pastor of Zebulun Baptist Church, Pikeville, KY OUR ACCESS
Ephesians 2: 18: For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
God’s saints have open, welcome, access to God. This short verse declares all three persons in the Godhead receive glory for giving us this precious entrance into God’s holy presence.
Through Him. Through the Son of God we have access. Our Savior said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (Jn 14: 6) We sinned against God in Adam. Therefore, we all have to die in order for justice to be satisfied. In order for God to remain just and to receive all glory for justifying his people, God himself had to be our justifier. Therefore, the Son of God took flesh, like unto his brethren, took the shame of our sin and paid in full the debt which every chosen child of God owed. (Rom 3: 26)
By One Spirit. By the Spirit of God we have access. Not only were we guilty under God’s law by Adam’s transgression, we also received Adam’s sin-nature. Therefore, it was a must that we be born-again of the Spirit of God. (Jn 3: 5-7; Ti 3: 5-7) The Holy Spirit put a new, holy spirit within us. In this new nature, the Spirit teaches us that our flesh is altogether unprofitable and teaches us “the things that are freely given to us of God.” (1 Cor 2: 12) By one Spirit all Gods’ saints are made willing to approach God on God’s terms—through faith in Christ, apart from our works. (Heb 10: 15-18)
Unto the Father. We have access unto God our Father by God our Father. He chose his people and blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ before ever creating this world. (Eph 1: 3-6) As we glorify our Redeemer for the great sacrifice he made on our behalf, let us remember the great love of our Father who sent his only begotten Son to accomplish our eternal redemption. What depths of holiness, love and grace for every chosen child when we read “he that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all.” (Rom 8:32) Brethren, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” (1 Jn 3: 1) Now, we have boldness to enter the holiest, crying, “Abba, Father!” (Heb 10: 19-22; Rom 8: 15)
For the poor sinner reading this who does not know the joy of our access, how wonderful it would be if today our triune God revealed to you that this is the God of whom we speak when we declare “Salvation is of the Lord!”
