Course Description: Keyboarding 1 will teach the student how to touch type using a computer keyboard. Students will become proficient at keying data using proper key stroking technique. Students will also be introduced to word processing using Microsoft Word. Various documents will be keyed in Word, introducing students to a variety of Word functions.

Materials Needed: Folder, paper for note taking, and a pen/pencil

Classroom Policies:

 You are on time if you are in the room, but you are expected to be getting your materials ready and logging in.

 Please, NO FOOD OR DRINKS in the classroom.

 You are expected to use all class time to develop your skill. If you finish work and are not sure what to do, ASK. Keyboarding, like any skill, takes practice!!!!!!!! At no time should students be surfing the internet, instant messaging, or checking email.

 All timed writings must be taken during the assigned timing test only and are due immediately at the end of that test. Keyboard covers must remain in place during all timed writings or the timing will not be accepted.

 All work must be completed at school, in class and/or after school in the library computer lab. The library computer lab is open after school until 4:00 except before vacations. Should you wish to ride the late bus home, be sure to see me for a late bus pass. Students are expected to make good use of their class time. Do not expect to use the library computer lab to make up work that is a result of wasting time in class.

 If you have been absent, be sure to check with me for missed lessons, notes and additional information. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE ME REGARDING MAKE UP WORK!!!!!

 Please leave your work area in good condition. Close your book, throw away all extra papers, put handouts in your folder, take all of your belongings, and push your chair in.

 Treat equipment with care at all times.

Your nine week grade will be weighted as follows:

50% Technique 40% Daily assignments, quizzes, and lessons 10% Timings

YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED TO TYPE!
