Our Annual Goal: By June, every fifth grade student will show expected growth as measured by North Carolina EOG tests in math and reading. Quarterly goals for core subjects would be written here for core subjects (also SMART Goals) By end of 1st quarter in reading 75% of all students will be proficient as measured by teacher created common assessments. By end of 1st quarter in math 75% of all students will be proficient as measured by teacher created common assessments. By end of 1st quarter in science 75% of all students will be proficient as measured by teacher created common assessments.

I. Announcements…  Amy has basketball buddies today- today is the last one for the year! Will make a card during dismissal for the boys and have the kids sign it!  Liles Baby Shower today at 4:15  We have FFFF from 9:15-9:35 and then specials from 10-10:45 Friday

II. Kid Talk  Fraction Check-Up- Students have had lots of prior experience in previous grades with fractional concepts, including adding fractions with like denominators- the only new information on this check-up was adding with unlike denominators and mixed numbers, as well as consistently showing their work with a math tool (number line or grid)

Passed with 80% Mann 40% Belluz 19% Trost 18% Hyde 15% Conrad 23%  After the check-up we taught estimation using benchmark fractions, as well as reviewed adding fractions with unlike denominators- we practiced with partners, in small groups, in rotations, and whole class and gave a unit assessment yesterday that we will discuss next week- are planning a team time for adding/subtracting fractions  Brainstormed options to continue reviewing adding/subtracting fractions, but have to begin multiplying fractions today- send additional practice for homework to continue working on the skill

Planning/ Curriculum…  Edmodo letters went home yesterday in Tuesday Folders- all teachers are working on creating an account and group for their class by Friday- every homeroom teacher will go to technology with their class next week, except Brad will go on the 25th to help set up Edmodo – thinking about the first prompt of comparing another book character to Maniac Magee- after the initial set-up we will discuss where to go from there with technology time  Shared upcoming topics with Mary Clay- multiplying/dividing fractions, volume, add fraction sites to CS4K, Youth Author’s Day is coming, Motion & Design  Discussed incorporating internet safety into everyday classroom lessons when using technology- discuss cyberbullying during morning meetings
