MAT, moving ahead together, 2nd edition, August 2016, Cremorne Bowls & Community Club e-newslet- ter.

Introduction MAT 1 was very positively received suggesting that this format of communication is a good way to go. Thanks for the positive feedback. It all depends on the quality of the content so keep your eyes and ears open for po- tential headline material and let the editorial team know. Congratulations go to Jill Williams, Ben Dillon, Garry Banks and Glenn Bremner. Their contribution to the Club being recognised at our 2015-16 AGM with life mem- bership.

Congratulations to our 2015-6 Life Members

Events Friday night Pop-up's have been very popular and are well attended. Our next one is on Friday 26 August and with improving weather should be a good evening. A previous Pop-up/Karaoke combined event was a great night with lots of local en- gagement and participation. The food vendors are all very professional, providing high quality menus in fish and chips as well as gourmet pizzas and other culinary de- lights. Outdoor cover is provided with good music and a warm atmosphere on the in- side. For those who have not yet attended a Pop-up Friday you are missing out on a great value and quality Friday night out. It's only once a month and with warming weather plus full indoor facilities irrespect- ive, come along and give it a try. Break your routine. You won't be disappointed as the food and bar prices compare more than favourably with other local venues. Good wines, beers and food at good prices.

1 Alan and Julie Dyson's combined Anniversary and Birthday celebrations was a terrific celebration for local identities.

Competition On the Green Cremorne have been regularly represented at bowls comps at Kingborough indoors and Beltana outdoors on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons respectively.

Leigh Munnings , Geoff Doyle and Ralph Tieman have regularly and successfully combined with Pat Hoffman and others from Rosny. David Watkins, Alan Rider, Ralph Tieman and Phil Ions have competed regularly at Beltana and recently won the random draw winning margin jackpot of $209 much to the wild and spontaneous applause of all the other local competitors- ha.ha.

On the Mat Indoor Bowls is rocking with finals fever gripping the clubhouse on Wednesday even- ings. Trophies are been polished off for eventual winners. The Indoor "Championship" draws have been done and organiser Andrew Dyson wants action "now" from participants.

Barefooters Alert Pre-season matches commence Thursday 8th October and competition starting on 27th. Register your team early. (form: cremorne.tas.au/cbcc or at Bar)

Individual performers Congratulations to Leigh Munnings who has been selected in the Tasmanian Over 60 team (Pensioner Pennant, according to son Connor) making him Cremorne's first o/60 State Representative.

Connor, albeit playing for Rosny, but nonetheless a genuine product of Cremorne, is in the State Development Squad making for a proud double. Peter Jackson's win with a 50 point score in Jack Attack goes to prove putting time in on the green pays off.

A 40 point "scroungers" game by Dave Watkins has set a high standard. Dave crashed in the second game unlike the consistency displayed by Peter Jack- son, David Watkins also recently achieved a "perfect end." 3 Kitties rolled separately to different lengths within a rink with a bowl played within a mat length to each kittie

2 followed by a drive out of either a kitty or bowl. Not an easy ask. Try it. Congrats Dave. Marcia Keady, Jill Williams, Ellen Swain and Teresa Newman have been excel- ling in all the new formats of the games on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Pennant NEEDED 45 players to be able to comfortably and regularly field 16 in Div 1. and two teams of 12 in Div 5 and 7. Put the word around about our friendly Club. We cur- rently have just over 40 listed. Reminder - the $85 BTS pennant affiliation fee needs to be paid asap by all intend- ing pennant players. Departures Don Taylor has been cleared to Bruny Island Bowls Club for Saturday Pennant. We thank Don for his loyal service to CBCC and wish him well at his new club on Bruny Island and also Brendon Dance for his service. Nola Taylor likewise but remains eligible and will remain a player for our Women's Thursday Pennant. Christine Wong has moved interstate and will be missed.

Trivia Wrong biases - George Botica, Vicky and Phil Ions have all been noticed complaining of sudden gusts of wind taking their bowls in unexpected directions. Ex-President "Jonesy" had a similar occurrence recently but despite that went on to thrash the op- position. Buying and selling bowls is at fever pitch. Post your terms and conditions on the no- ticeboard. Remember, though, it's not necessarily the tools but the handler's levels of skill de- velopment that might be where the change is needed. Another hour or so of practice a week might have your current bowls suddenly looking the goods. Steve Lanning's new job on the buses for Metro Tasmania has been a baptism of fire with him becoming a specialist on the Bridgewater, Clarendon Vale and Rokeby trips. Steve was also reported to have gone the wrong way and had to call in the assist- ance of locals to back him out of a dead end street and up someones driveway to eventually get him back on course. Nice work, Steve!

Uniforms Contact Geoff Doyle for all details.

Travels Overseas - Don McVilly and Leigh Munnings both had recent exciting journeys in Europe. Glenn Bremner is still wandering around somewhere. Where is he? Does anyone know. Does Brem know?

Leigh has just recently taken off again. This time for Canada and finishing with a Bruce, "the Boss", live concert in his hometown of NY before he returns at the end of this month.

Vicki Pearce has recently returned from a stint in FNQ and Bali/Lombok. We hope all are refreshed and raring to go for the challengers ahead.

3 Membership Club membership is rapidly pushing up to the 150 mark with 200 within sight if we each get out there and spread the word about the Club and its atmosphere and facil- ities. It is terrific to see the progress of all our new bowlers. Paul Karpiniec and Lou Otto being our latest new faces. Welcome to all.

Volunteers Thanks again to all the volunteer work that is being put in around the club with gener- al repairs and maintenance to improve the look and feel of the place.

John Crossin, Club Person of the Year 2015-16 Repairs and Maintenance John continues to keep the Club looking the best it ever has, having now repainted the seating around the green. Our original clubhouse and long serving shed has had a much needed and professional makeover by Guy Crichton We are thinking of every ones health and happiness and hope Life Member Garry Bank's knee comes right. We are hoping to see Evan Beach back in action around the Club soon. Good to see Wayne Newman back in action. Must be Teresa's good form of late that Wayne is "always" hearing about driving his competitive instincts. A word of thanks again to David Watkins, Neil Winthrop and Peter Krstic for their reg- ular and high quality organising of Tuesday and Saturday Winter competitions. The variety has kept us all on our toes keeping up with the arithmetic! It is very helpful if participants can be at the Club at least 15 minutes before the start times as selecting teams is very dependent on known numbers.

Community News Cremorne Playgroup has been an integral part of the Club's community involvement philosophy since it was set up by Vicki Pearce and Jodie Presnell in 2009. The Group meets from 10am to 12md at the Club on Mondays during school term. On those Mondays when the kids are at the Club the gates are closed off for their safety whilst playing.
