Content Area and Grade or Age Level of Students: Content area is technology; Students are adult learners (recently hired teachers)

Objectives: (What will the students know or be able to do after completing the lesson?) After reviewing the VoiceThread located at http://voicethread.com/share/1712075/, teachers/students will be able to identify key components of the West Shore School District’s network. With a team member, they will develop one hypothetical situation involving the network (“What if this happened?”), a corresponding correct answer, and lead discussion on that question.

Grouping Strategies: (If time at a computer is involved, how many computers will you have available and how will you group your student(s)?) Teachers/students will use their district-assigned laptops to view the VoiceThread independently (one-on-one computing). After completing the VoiceThread, students will find a partner with whom they will work to develop a hypothetical situation and a corresponding answer that will be presented to the whole group.

Learning Activities: (Describe the tasks to be completed by the student(s)) Teachers/students will be directed to http://voicethread.com/share/1712075/ and instructed to work their way through the VoiceThread. Questions or points needing further clarification should be written down for later discussion. After completing the VoiceThread, teachers/students will be paired with another teacher/student and review the questions they had while viewing. Together they will also develop another hypothetical question that they can answer and which they will pose to the group for discussion. The leader/presenter should circulate to be available to answer questions during the time that group members are discussing question and developing questions in order to clarify details. Once everyone is completed writing questions, go through the room asking and answering the questions, giving each group an opportunity to share.

Assessment: (Explain how the learning objectives will be assessed. This might be a quiz, test, or project based assessment, for example. The assessment does not need to be attached. Just explain your assessment plan.) The assessment will involve developing a hypothetical question based on network operations, and having an answer that can be shared with the group as a whole. For example, “You had made plans to go in to school over the weekend to work on lesson plans that need to be on the server by Monday. You found out that the network operating system will be upgraded Saturday morning. What should you do?”

Adaptations for Learners with Special Needs: (what modifications could be implemented to meet the needs of ELL learners or those with learning/physical disabilities?) As speaking English is a requirement to be hired, it is unlikely that translation would be necessary. However, the audio combined with the video should be of assistance to people who are hearing or visually impaired.
