PROJET SUR LE MONDE FRANCOPHONE PROJECT ON FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES (200 points)

Purpose: Your Role You have just been hired to work for the Ministry of Tourism in … (name of your country) You are in charge of promoting tourism abroad to attract foreign visitors. You have been asked to create a movie, a power point or a poster for this new campaign. You want to give it your best shot as this is the career you’ve always dreamed of.

1. Format: Your project includes: a visual piece and a written piece which include specific requirements for this assignment. a)Visual Piece Choose one of the following:  Poster - White or colored regular poster size - Name(s) and period clearly written on back of poster - Citations in MLA format of all research articles used on back of poster - Title: Name of country and continent both written in French. You must have a map of the country and the flag. - 6 separate sections of writing with the title for each section. (See content.) - You must have many pictures of your country to illustrate each section of your writing. Pictures must be in color. Your visual piece is a big part of your grade.

1  Power Point - 8 slides total. - Each slide must have a title. (See content.) - Name(s) and period clearly written on 1st slide. Par: … (By:...) - Citations in MLA format of all the research articles you used. - You must have minimum two pictures of your country to illustrate each slide. Pictures must be in color. - You must handout a paper copy of your power point in color on the day your project is due. - You can make color copies of your power point free of charge at the library in slide show format only. (1 page) - If you can print each slide full size in color at home please do so. - You must save your power point on to your flash drive and bring your flash drive with you in class so you can upload your power point on to my computer. - You must also email me your power point just in case at: [email protected].

 Movie - If you’d rather make a movie of your country you may do so. - You can add music and be creative. - You must have many pictures of your country. Pictures must be in color. - Citations of all the research articles you used must be cited at the end of the movie. b) Written Piece  All writing must be typed and bulleted.  NO COMPLETE SENTENCES EXCEPT FOR THE SLOGAN  ______font size for the poster and ______font size for the power point.  The amount of bullets per slide or per section must be equal to the number of things asked of your country.  Write the key word at the start of each line. Ex. Capital: Paris  No title for slide 7 or section 6. The slogan can be more than one sentence but by definition a slogan is short. Use exclamation points!  You must keep the same order for the topics within each slide or each section as it is described. (See content.)

2 2. Content: You must have a title for each slide/section.

1 st slide/Title of Poster: - Name of country and continent in French. Use dictionary.com for the translation. Click on Translator, type in your word in English and change the language to French to get your word in French. - Map of the country - Flag - Power Point: Par:... (By:…)

2 nd slide/1 st section: Important Facts - Location of the country within the continent - Capital - Official language(s) and other languages spoken - Population: - Main groups of people/tribes - Religion(s)

3 rd slide/2 nd section: Geography - Main land areas/regions of your country - Mountains/Hills/Plateaux - Surrounding bodies of water or if landlocked/neighboring countries - Climate

4 th slide/3 rd section: Key Dates - Major historical events - Major athletic events - Any other date which is important for your country - Major cultural celebrations/holidays

5 th slide/4 th section: Main Tourist Attractions - Any place(s), site(s), monument(s) worth seeing with their proper names - Cuisine: famous dish or specialty of the country

6 th slide/5 th section: Famous People & Their Achievements - Can be in any fields: politics/science/medicine/inventions/ literature/art/singing/movies

7 th slide/6 th section: (Slogan) - You need to come up with a slogan (a catch phrase(s) to entice/to attract foreign tourists as to why they should come visit your country. - Be creative! Make it unique and original!

3 3. Research articles:

 Choose your country from the list provided and write the name of your country in the blank: ______ You must do research on your own time on the computer.  You must have a minimum of 2 research articles from 2 required databases.  1 research article from World Book Discover and 1 research article from CultureGrams.  If necessary: a 3rd article from World Book Student or World Book Advanced.  Print all the research articles you used to do your project with the citation.  You must hand in all your research articles to me on the project due date.

Directions to do your research:  Go to the LMS Library page.  Go to Reference Desk – Online Databases  For World Book Online: World Book Discover – Specialty Sites – Places. Find your country. The citation is right after the sentence “How to cite your article:” at the very end of the article.  For CultureGrams/WORLD EDITION ONLY. ( ID & Password: lincolnri)  CultureGrams separate the article on the country in different topics to the left. You only need this one citation for each of your articles.  Click on the link “Generate citation” at the top right hand corner of the page to get the citation.

If you don’t have access to a computer and a printer the LMS library stays open on Tuesdays from 2:35 till 3:35 or you may use the Lincoln Public Library located near the high school.

4. Grading:

 You will be graded according to the LMS Visual Display School-Wide Rubric.  Project is worth 200 points.  This is NOT an oral presentation however if you wish to share the country you researched with your classmates that would be great. You will earn 5 extra points on the next quiz.  You must hand in your rubric on the project due date with your name, period and country.  If you loose your rubric or do not have it with you on the project due date I will provide you another one. You will loose 2 points from your final grade.  If you were working with a partner only the partner who does not have his/her own rubric will be penalized.  It is important that your poster, Power Point or movie is visually attractive and neat.

4 5. Work arrangement:

 You may wish to work alone or with a partner of your choice.  Working with a partner is a commitment. You must be willing to meet to do the work together.  Upon completion of the project each partner will fill out a student survey and grade their partner on his/her work effort.  If there are any problems with your partner please let me know right away.  The work should be divided equally between the two of you.  You will each write the content of each slide from your own research article in your notebook for homework. MUST BE HANDWRITTEN.  Therefore the homework assignments which will be assigned throughout the week are the responsibility of each partner.  You collaborate with your partner when the time comes to put the project together.  You should each share your findings for the writing with your partner as one partner may have found other or extra information from his/her own research article. REMEMBER YOU WILL SHARE THE SAME GRADE.

6. Important dates:

 Project given on: Friday 10/21  Project due on: Wednesday 11/2  If you hand me your project earlier you will earn 5 extra points on your project final grade.  If you hand me your project after the due date you will loose 5 points per day.  No project will be accepted after a week late or 5 school days.

 Do not wait till the last minute to start your project!

 Give it your best effort!
