RULES AND ELIGIBILITY:

1. Entrants must be NSU Students. Interest Form is due by March 30, 2017 to [email protected] or BMH A128.

2. Entries must describe a new business idea in the plan. Operating businesses are not eligible.

3. Entrants may only enter once, either as an individual or as part of a team. Teams must have a team leader.

4. The business plan must follow the criteria below. It must be submitted in paper and electronic formats to Dr. Sally Sledge, Director of the Hodge Institute, NSU, BMH 128, [email protected], by April 13, 2017. Use a .DOC file format.

5. Entrants must present their business idea to the panel of judges during the oral presentations using Power Point on April 20, 2017. Schedule to be announced.

6. Prizes: First, Second and Third Prizes will be awarded to the winning entrants after the judges have voted. Winners must be students in good standing at NSU.

7. By submitting the plan, you agree to allow the NSU Hodge Institute for Entrepreneurship to use a short summary of your plan and your picture on the website for the Institute.

8. Entrants may be disqualified if they violate the rules of the competition. 9. Decisions of the judges are final and interpretation of the rules of the competition will be determined by the participating NSU faculty.

STUDENT BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION

Your plan will be judged on:

1. Content, accuracy, analysis, quality and completeness of the written plan and the Power Point presentation

2. Evidence of appropriate research and inclusion of appropriate data

3. Communication skills, both written and oral

4. Feasibility of the idea

5. Economic impact of the business

6. Discussion of the use of award funding

7. Paper and electronic copies that are no more than 30 pages total. Save this as a single .DOC file

8. Please prepare a 20 minute presentation for the panel of judges

The Business Plan should include: (in this order)

1. A cover page with the following information for each team member: name, NSU major, class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, grad student), street address, telephone number and email address.

2. Executive summary: one page summary of the plan

3. Table of Contents

4. Description of the business

5. Industry analysis and market trends

6. Target market description

7. 3 top competitors

8. Top strategies for success

9. Risk assessment and risk management strategies

10. Marketing and sales plans

11. Operations description 12. Management description and organizational chart

13. Milestone calendar

14. Exit plan

15. 3 year projected balance sheet

16. 3 year projected income statements

17. 3 year projected statements of cash flows

18. Numbered pages

19. Reference page(s)

20. Appendix for other items
