Presentation by Family Centers of Door County: 31Gina Wautier and Christy Reisen of the Family Centers of Door County described the many 32services which are provided by that agency. The mission of the Family Centers is to strengthen 33and support families and communities. Donations of time and treasure are gratefully accepted as 34many of the programs the Family Centers offer are provided to participants free of charge. 35Wautier and Reisen asked if the Board members would like to recommend any additional 36programs or services for the Northern Door area, and indicated that that they would be willing to 37partner with the SBAA on some of those activities. The suggestions were made that gingerbread 38house building classes be incorporated into the “Capture The Spirit” activities, that a pumpkin 39decorating contest be incorporated into the Fall Fest activities, and that next year a children’s 40store be created at the Sister Bay Fire Station on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Reisen, who is 41the Northern Door Coordinator for the Family Centers, indicated that she would be happy to help 42organize whatever children’s activities are decided upon for Fall Fest and would also be willing 43to help with creation of gingerbread house building classes and a children’s store. The major 44component of creation of such a store is to get area business owners to donate a sufficient number 45and variety of affordable gifts for the kids to purchase. 46 47It was the consensus that Funkhouser shall work with Reisen on seeing that the previously

1mentioned programs do come to fruition next year and are publicized. Bhirdo indicated that she 2will see that information regarding the Family Centers and the services that agency provides are 3included in an upcoming edition of the Village’s newsletter. 4 54. Presentation by Sharon Doersching regarding Capture The Spirit: 6Sharon Doersching indicated that she and Lisa MacDonald are Co-Chairs of “Capture The 7Spirit”, which event will take place on Thanksgiving weekend. The large Spruce tree in 8Waterfront Park will again be adorned with thousands of lights, but this will probably be the last 9year it will be used as the Village Christmas Tree as it is quite diseased. Small trees with white 10lights will again be placed along the highway in the uptown and downtown areas, the tree lighting 11ceremony will take place on Friday, Lloyd Michalsen will again be “Father Christmas”, food and 12refreshments will be served, and there will be a children’s parade to the Library where 13storytelling will take place. The trolley has been booked for Saturday, and it is hoped that many 14more area businesses will offer sales and specials on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Last year only 15eight businesses participated – The Inn at Kristofers, Passtimes Books, On Deck, Tannenbaum, 16Sister Bay Café, The Silly Goose, Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant and Boutique and the Open 17Hearth Lodge. 18 19Doersching and Funkhouser indicated that they will urge all the members of the SBAA to 20participate in “Capture The Spirit”. They also will solicit donations from area business owners 21to help defray the cost of the trolley. 22 235. Monthly budget review and items for 2011: 24Moretti provided a copy of a financial report for the first three quarters of the year to the Board 25members and they jointly reviewed that document. Moretti and Funkhouser noted that they do 26intend to provide more detailed information regarding some of the line items in the near future. 27 28Kane, Moretti and Funkhouser are working on the 2011 budget, and a draft will be presented at 29the next Board meeting. 30 316. Letter requesting continuation of Community Marketing Funds: 32Funkhouser indicated that the Community Marketing Fund is set to sunset next year. She believes 33significant negative impacts will be realized if that type of funding is discontinued, and also 34believes that it would be best for all the Northern Door business associations to present a united 35front. She would like to send a letter to the Door County Tourism Zone Commission, the Door 36County Visitor Bureau Board of Directors, the Door County Board of Supervisors, the Village 37and Town Boards throughout the County, and the Advocate and the Pulse regarding continuation 38of the fund, and intends to contact representatives of all the Northern Door Business Associations 39to solicit their support. A draft of such a letter was included in the meeting packets. The Board 40members reviewed the draft, and it was the consensus that it shall be revised in such fashion that 41Rowleys Bay is also referred to. 42 43A motion was made by Grutzmacher seconded by Bittorf that Funkhouser shall contact 44representatives of all the Northern Door business associations as soon as possible to see if they 45would be interested in supporting a request for continuation of the Community Marketing Fund. 46The previously mentioned letter shall then be revised accordingly, but it shall initially only be 47sent to the Door County Visitor Bureau and the Door County Tourism Zone Commission. .Motion 48carried – All ayes. 49 50At 9:20 A.M. 17. Discussion on Goat Cam: 2Funkhouser indicated that when the SBAA was working with John Nelson on the creation of a 3new website the suggestion was made that a “Goat Cam” be installed on Al Johnson’s roof and 4integrated into the SBAA’s website. When the decision was made to sever ties with Nelson the 5“Goat Cam” idea was put on hold. Funkhouser recently discovered that Nelson has already 6installed a web cam on Al’s roof but has integrated that camera into his own website. Discussion 7took place regarding this issue and it was the consensus that while the Board members do not 8believe Nelson’s actions were appropriate no retaliatory action shall be taken. 9 108. Discussion regarding scarecrows: 11Chaudoir indicated that the Sister Bay Historical Society has designated July 6, 7 and 8, 2010 as 12the dates for placement and display of all scarecrows entered in the Historical Society’s 13Scarecrow Contest. The scarecrows will be auctioned off at the Festival of the Arts. The 14Historical Society would like to see the scarecrow contest mentioned in all the SBAA’s 15promotional materials and would also like to ask all the businesses in the area to participate in the 16contest, regardless of whether or not they are SBAA members. 17 18Discussion took place regarding this issue and the Board members noted that the mission of the 19SBAA is to serve its members. Since the Historical Society is currently not a member of the 20Association and since the scarecrow contest will not be exclusive to SBAA members only, the 21SBAA will not actively participate in or co-sponsor the scarecrow contest. The contest dates will 22still be mentioned in the SBAA’s brochure, on the SBAA website and in the e-newsletter which is 23sent to SBAA members. Funkhouser was asked to see that an explanatory letter is sent to the 24Historical Society Board of Directors as soon as possible. 25 269. Discussion regarding logo colors: 27Funkhouser distributed color proofs of the new Sister Bay logo and noted that the Marketing 28Committee is asking for input as to a preferred color scheme. It was the consensus that Option B 29is preferred but that Boettcher Communications shall be asked to create a version of the logo 30whereby “Door County” is red in color. The new proof will be provided to the Marketing 31Committee for review and recommendation. 32 33At 9:50 A.M. Ouradnik indicated that she had another obligation and left the meeting. 34 3510. Discussion regarding the Volunteer of the Year Award: 36Funkhouser indicated that the Volunteer of the Year Award Committee, which consists of three 37individuals who do not personally know the nominees, has narrowed the field of candidates down 38to two individuals. The Board members reviewed the nomination materials and it was the 39consensus that Ronald Bushen shall be the recipient of the 2010 Volunteer of the Year Award. 40That award will be presented at Fall Fest. 41 42At 9:55 A.M. Grutzmacher indicated that she had another obligation and left the meeting. 43 4411. Coordinator’s report: 45Funkhouser presented a plaque which had been awarded to the SBAA by the Door County 46Humane Society. She also noted that her monthly report had been included in the packet 47materials. A listing of non-members and non-renewals was included in that report. It was the 48consensus that the Board members shall all make a concerted effort to contact the owners of the 49businesses shown on the list and remind them of the many benefits of SBAA membership. 50 5112. 1Larsen indicated that work is on-going on Fall Fest preparations. 2 3 4 5Doersching suggested that the SBAA consider involving the residents of SCAND in each of the 6festivals conducted in the Village by holding some sort of festival-related activity in the 7Community Room at that facility. It was the consensus that this is an excellent idea. Doersching’s 8suggestion will be implemented next year. 9 1013. Officers for 2011: 11Kane indicated that all the SBAA officers have consented to serve another term. Formal 12nominations and elections will take place in November. 13 1414.
