Staff Pathways Handbook After Adoption
What After Adoption has developed a Staff Pathways Handbook to induct and develop newly appointed Managers, Social Workers and Administrators. There are formalised career pathways and inductions for each of these roles. Outlined below are the key elements from the Handbook.
How Career Pathway and Induction for Management Handover requirements All newly promoted or recruited Managers must receive a comprehensive handover from their line manager or identified experienced manager. This handover should cover: Key management priorities (Case priority/staff issues/project work) Make up of team Case allocation process Office information (planned moves/Landlord info/Opening and closing) Key dates Key policies such as managing attendance, code of conduct, data protection, safeguarding, recording, etc.
Induction Pack A standard induction pack should be prepared for the new manager prior to arrival/role commencing: Induction planner, Induction checklist, Manager’s handbook, Organisational chart, Regions corporate objectives, and Regional team structure and description of roles.
Corporate Induction and Development for Managers The induction process that a new manager will undergo is clearly described via a flow chart and 4-step process:
1) Managers induction 2) Structured Development Plan 3) Forums 4) Mentor/Buddy
Career Pathway for qualified and registered social workers within After Adoption This pathway relates to:
Social Workers who have completed their ASYE year within After Adoption or another agency. Social Workers who have completed the ASYE programme. However, if they already have significant post-qualified experience, they will join the Social Workers career pathway at year 2.
This pathway aims to:
Consolidate practice and fulfil requirements of registration with HCPC by ensuring the pathway evidences continuous professional development via the Professional Capabilities Framework Meet organisational objectives outlined within the Corporate Action Plan
Career Pathway: Student After Adoption already has a structure in place to support student placements.

Career Pathway for Administrators Administrators provide both clerical and administrative support to the agency and play a vital part in the administration and smooth running of the team. Administrators are involved with the co-ordination and implementation of office procedures and frequently have responsibility for specific projects and tasks. Most work will involve both written and oral communication, word processing and typing, and requires relevant skills such as IT, organisational and presentation skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure. The work done by administrators is crucial to the effective planning of the organisation and in the role you will be affecting the position of After Adoption.
