St. Paul Pastoral Council April 12th, 2016
Present: Lori Schmidt, Eric Voller, Dave Kalberer, Janel Baumgartner and Heidi Kalberer, Staff: Fr. David, Sue Schumacher Secretary: Heidi Kalberer
Fr. David read from the ‘Prayer for Beginners’ book.
Parish Survey: Much discussion was held regarding the parish survey. A few suggestions are as follows: 1. List each parish name on top of their own survey, rather than combining all three parishes together. 2. Fix the numbering on the survey as #10 is missing. 3. Mail a copy to every household in each parish. 4. Allow grades 7-12 religious education students fill out survey 5. Place extra copies in the churches is necessary. 6. Add family with children as a category to the survey. 7. Lori will get a box to place in the church for completed surveys. 8. Completed surveys can also be mailed to parish council members. 9. Place a 2-3 week time frame after survey is mailed out to be completed. 10. Mail out survey by end of April
St. Anthony parish council will also look over the surveys next week and Billie will email us a copy of the final draft with all changes before we mail out the surveys to the parishioners.
Stewardship Days: Fr. David and Sue extended an invite to all that are interested in attending a conference on stewardship held in Bismarck at the Ramkota. It is a Friday evening and Saturday morning. Parish did receive a grant to help pay for expenses so the parish will cover the registration fees and possibly room expenses.
ND Concealed Carry Policy: Eric explained the policy that is in effect per ND rules about carrying a concealed weapon in a Church. The current priest has to approve this to be done legally and Fr. David recommends not to adopt this policy at this time.
Kitchen Floor Update: It was decided to wait until next spring to drill a hole under the stove to check for water providing we have a huge snowfall next year. If after we drill next spring and there is no water, we could assume we could move forward and repair the floor. If there is water, then we need to discuss further options and figure out where the water is coming from. We know something needs to be done sooner than later, otherwise we may have more issues as we continue to let this go. The parish council members are supposed to watch the floors in the basement after heavy rains these next few months and see if we notice anything of importance. Fr. David did suggest we place a sump pump somewhere in the basement when we do replace the floors for future problems. Other Items: Heidi said Adele sprayed for box elder bugs in March when she was cleaning the church during her rotation. Dave's term is ending this year, Fr. David has a few people in mind to fill his position but was wondering if we had any opinions. On July 1st at noon, our new pastor Fr. David Zimmer will take over. We need to decide if and when we would like Leland Vetter to visit our parish.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th at 7:00 p.m.
