Technical skills:

 Specialize in large Oracle database issues, including Oracle Parallel Server.  Oracle versions 7.x – 9.0.x installation, migration, and administration.  Solaris 2.x, HP/UX 10.20, AIX 3.x, 4.x. - Strong SysAdmin background.  PL/SQL, Perl & CGI, Korn shell, Bourne shell, Expect, Tcl, Tk scripting.  SQL*Net troubleshooting, including the Oracle Connection Load Balancing listener.  Written many web based tools for Oracle DBA’s.  Years of experience with large database backup and recovery issues, particularly with BMC SQL-Backtrack and Oracle Recovery Manager, also OS based utilities.  Installation / configuration of Linux, Apache web server, iPlanet web server, Samba file server, Vitria, Siteminder, Jrun, Bea Weblogic, Veritas volume manager.

Accomplishments:

 Author / maintainer of Oracletool, a web based Oracle database administration tool used by many DBA’s around the world. Oracletool is an open source project.  Published in the book “Oracle and Open Source” for my work on Oracletool, and in the forthcoming book “Perl for Oracle DBA’s”.

Oct 2000 to CDI Information Technology Services Present Oracle DBA / UNIX Systems Administrator

 Member of a team working on a large scale Peoplesoft 8 implementation.  Responsible for Database administration of production, test and development Oracle databases, primarily 8.1.6. Supported UDB databases from a SysAdmin standpoint.  Performed Storage Area Network (SAN) disk configuration on both Hitachi and EMC SAN arrays, including Business Continuance Volumes (BCV’s).  Performed all standard DBA duties including database creation, imports / exports, automated backups, developer support, database tuning etc.  Wrote scripts for automated database loads using schema rotation to provide maximum availability for web based applications.  Served as the primary UNIX administrator for the entire project, 35 Sun Solaris machines ranging from E220’s to E4500’s.  System Administration duties included OS loads / upgrades, kernel tuning, Veritas volume manager administration, SAN administration, shell / Perl scripting, application installation and configuration etc. Application Administration included Oracle, Bea WebLogic 5.1, Netscape web servers 4.1, Jrun 3.0, Siteminder 4.5, Vitria Businessware 3.x, Informatica, Control-M, Veritas Cluster Server support, Java Runtime Environment / Development Kit installs.  Responsible for multiple production Oracle Parallel Server databases, as well as six test / development OPS databases. (IBM SP, AIX 4.x) Database sizes range from 400 Gigabytes to 2.1 Terabytes. RDBMS versions have varied from 7.3.3.6 to 8.1.5.1.  Implemented backup / recovery strategy for all databases on this project.  Planned and led all upgrades and migrations for these databases.  Wrote monitoring tools which send pages when negative events occur (Instance unavailable, tablespace nearing full, resource limit met etc.).  Wrote tools to aid in large database migrations from existing hardware to new hardware.  Site administrator for Constellar Hub, an extraction, transformation, loading tool.

Aug 1996 to Metapath Software Corporation, Bellevue, WA May 1997 Onsite technical consultant to Sprint PCS, Lenexa KS

 Primary DBA and Systems administrator for Oracle 7.3.2 databases running on Sequent Symetry platforms. (Dynix Pt/x 4.1.3)  Provided support for 20 high availabilty UNIX (Lynx RTOS) nodes located throughout the country.  Implemented automated database backups.  Wrote tools and SQL scripts to aid in applications testing and troubleshooting.  Worked with customer on a daily basis to ensure application integrity during the Sprint PCS initial rollout.

 Primary DBA responsible for administration of Oracle 7.1.6 databases running under SAP R3 release 3.0c.  IBM RS6000 (R30, 43P) installation and configuration under AIX 4.1.  Sun Enterprise 6000/4000 installation and configuration under Solaris 2.5.  Responsible for day-to-day administration of UNIX servers to include troubleshooting and performance analysis/tuning.  SAP R3.x installation and upgrades.  UNIX Server / Workstation installation and administration. Hardware platforms include SPARC Center 2000's and 1000's, Pyramid MIS Servers, IBM RS 6000's, SPARC Station 20's and 5's.  OS administration of Solaris 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, SunOS 4.1.3, AIX 3.2.5, Pyramid DC-OSx, including NFS, NIS, DNS, X Windows, Veritas volume management, kernel patches / bug fixes, System performance tuning, and security.  Provided relational database support of Oracle 7.1.4 / 7.1.6 and Sybase 10.0.2, including several Oracle parallel/high availability solutions, using multiple SPARC 2000 nodes with mirrored and striped raw data partitions.  Established automated backups of Operating System filesystems and relational database datafiles residing on filesystems and raw partitions. Backup techniques include ufsdump, dd, and ADSM.
