A Collective Review of Eight Lessons

Introduction

One challenge for teachers is how to incorporate previous learned lessons and skills in activities. This lab will help students recall that information, develop methods of review and reinforce the information in an activity that ties everything together. The lab provides opportunities to demonstrate how the information is used in a healthcare setting.

Lessons Required

Microorganisms Infection Medical Asepsis Aseptic Practices and Measures Protective Measures Cells, Tissues and Organs Integumentary System Muscular Skeletal System Microorganisms Types of Microbes

Discuss Salmonella – Although there is no blood, the microbe is carried in the fluid and not visible to the eye – like most pathogens

Infection Chain of Infection

Medical Asepsis Aseptic Practices and Measures Hand washing

Cleaning Contaminate areas and supplies

Protective Measures

Standard Precautions Personal Protective Equipment - PPE Transmission Precautions

Donning and Removing gloves

Direct and Indirect Contact Cells, Tissues and Organs Types of Tissue in a Chicken wing Epithelial Covers internal and external body surface Connective Bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and blood Muscle Skeletal, smooth, cardiac Nerve Carries impulses from brain to body parts and back

Integumentary System Review Function Review structure Epidermis Dermis Hair, nerves, vessels, glands Fascia – connects skin to muscle

Muscular System Review Function Review structure Number of muscle in the human body Voluntary/Involuntary Type of muscle in the wing Tendons Attach muscle to bone Isolate a muscle that goes over a joint and find tendon and attachment point

Skeletal Review Function Review structure Types of bones Periosteum – find by using probe to lift off bone Bone Marrow – find a small bone, break in half and examine marrow Diseases

Ligaments Connects bone to bone Isolate a ligament

Joints Two or more bones come together Isolate a joint Identify the cartilage
