ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE AND ACTIVITIES

Over 40 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, formulating courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, organizing and setting up of laboratories and general administration. Also involved in several successful negotiations to initiate collaborative programmes and secured funds for conducting research in the Department. Negotiated and obtained funds from IPPS/Sweden for initiating collaborative research activities and for offering split Ph.D. in Physics at Peradeniya. The total grant provided by the IPPS for this project over a period of 25 years is more than Rs. 100 million (USD 2.5 million)

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE AND ACTIVITIES:

Research Interests: Conducting Polymers; Artificial Muscles Solar Cells and Solar Energy Conversion Solid State Ionics Dielectric Properties of Solids

Currently engaged in research on polymer based sensitized solar cells with quantum dots and dyes as sensitizers at the Centre for Ionics, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Previously served as the joint leader of the Solid State Research Group and the Principal Investigator of the Conducting Polymer project at the Department of Physics, University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (1983-2011)
