Uniform Policy

1 Purpose To promote inclusion and engagement with the school, students will be required to wear uniform items for day to day wear as well as in some subjects, such as PE.

2 Application The uniform is subject to review by the Principal, in consultation with Governors, students and parents. The Academy reserves the right to review the uniform in light of changes in fashion in order to maintain a consistent appearance for all students. Full uniform details are outlined in Appendix A

2.2 The requirement for adherence to the Academy uniform will be reinforced by all staff at times to ensure consistency across all students and year groups. Form tutors are expected to work with their tutor groups and encourage a high expectation for the standard of their uniform.

2.3 Students are expected to be of smart and sensible appearance. Individual fashion statements such as extreme hair styles or unnatural colours are not permitted. No decorative attachments are to be worn in the hair. Tram lines or other shaved shapes in the hair and other extreme hair styles are not permitted.

2.4 Nail varnish, false nails or nail extensions must not be worn at any time. Tinted or cosmetic contact lenses and decorative dental wear are not permitted. Excessive make up is not permitted. Make up needs to be discreet and natural.

2.5 No jewellery, except for one wrist watch, and a maximum of two plain stud earrings in each ear. Nose studs, other facial piercings and tongue studs are not permitted. Ear stretchers are not permitted. Any wrist bands including those for charity are not permitted.

2.6 No accessories are to be worn around the neck or attached to clothing; this includes fashion stickers and badges, other than those provided by the Academy.

2.7 Shoes should be plain black and suitable for use around the Academy site. Open toed, canvas, high heeled shoes, trainers and decorated footwear are not permitted. Boots are not permitted.

2.8 Belts should be plain black and serve a purpose to hold clothing in place. Fashion belts and those worn as fashion accessories only will be subject to confiscation.

2.9 No hoods, caps or hats should be worn around the Academy site, except in outdoor areas. Headwear is permitted in respect of religious observance.

2.10 There is no restriction on the colour or style of outer garments, such as top coats, but these must be worn over the Academy logo sweatshirt / jumper, not in place of it. Such garments must be removed in classrooms, along with gloves and scarves.

2.11 Trousers must be suitable for Academy life and therefore we do not permit leggings, stretchy trousers, canvas trousers or those of a jeans or combat style. The colour of the trouser must adhere to that set out in the uniform detailed in Appendix A. From September 2017 new students in year 7 and mid-year transfers are to wear the uniform trousers with the embroidered Academy logo.

2.12 Skirts must be Henley style, knee length or below for reasons of modesty. Stretchy skirts are not permitted

2.13 If students are not in full, correct uniform they can expect the following sanctions to be applied:  Prohibited items that contravene the uniform code will be subject to confiscation  A break and lunch time detention with the form tutor will be sanctioned  On occasion the student may not be able to attend lessons, working in a designated area until the correct uniform is brought to them if possible, or until the uniform is corrected the following day.  If possible the student may be sent home to change with prior consent from parents.  If necessary students will remain isolated until, full, correct uniform is worn in line with this policy

2.14 All items of uniform should be clearly marked or labelled with the student's name. 3 Exemptions Post 16 students are given more freedom with accessories, make-up and hairstyles. They are expected to adhere to the main uniform rules for Post 16, but are exempt from points 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6 above.

In light of the pace at which fashion changes, the Academy reserves the right to amend the rules concerning the wearing of uniform and hair styles when necessary.

Appendix A: Uniform requirements for September 2017 All of the uniform to be worn by students in Years 7 to 11 is available to be purchased from PMG online retailer or Chroma Sports and Trophies in Peterborough. Compulsory for all Years 7-11 Navy Jumper Dark blue, with Academy logo and house denotation Polo Shirt Light blue with Academy logo and house denotation Skirt Plain, black, knee length or below. Henley style only. Trousers Plain black, tailored style, full length (no leggings, combat or jeans style). From September 2017 new students in year 7 and mid-year transfers are to wear the uniform trousers with the embroidered Academy logo. Tights/Socks Black, white, or grey Shoes Black – NB trainers, boots, sandals, open toed or platform shoes and other unsuitable footwear must not be worn. Canvas shoes are not permitted Physical Education Shirt Blue panelled polo shirt with Academy logo Rugby shirt Blue panelled with Academy logo (boys only) Sweatshirt Blue panelled ¼ zip with Academy Logo (girls only) Shortsor skorts Blue panelled shorts or skorts Socks Navy blue long socks with light blue tops Boots Football boots (compulsory for boys) Trainers No canvas / plimsolls or boot style shoes. Swimwear Costume for girls / Shorts no longer than knee length for boys Jewellery Earrings and watches must be removed for health and safety. If students cannot practically participate in their PE lessons, they are still required to get changed into their PE kit. This will allow them to participate as a coach or official, focusing on their knowledge and understanding. Sixth Form Students Sixth Form students will be expected to wear the following: Black ¼ zip sweatshirt with Academy logo White collared top Smart plain black trousers, full length (no leggings) or skirt (knee length or below) Smart plain black footwear
