APPOSITIVES WORKSHEET #1 BUSINESS LANGUAGE SKILLS
An appositive is a word or phrase that explains or describes a noun. When the appositive is not essential to the meaning or grammatical correctness of a sentence, it is set off by commas. When the appositive is essential to the meaning of the noun, it is not set off by commas.
To be sure that a word or phrase in an appositive, read the sentence without using the word of phrase; the sentence should make sense without the appositive.
