Materials: Assessment Strategies: 1 – 9 volt battery 1 – 9 volt light & socket At the conclusion of this TLA, students will complete the assessment included in the “Reach Out And Touch Someone” design challenge. 3 – paper/styrofoam plates 4 – brass fasteners 5 – paper clips 10 ft. of thin copper wire Procedures: 3 cardboard tubes/cups 1. Introduce students to the design problem (Power Point Presentation). 12” of masking tape 2. Divide class into groups of 2-3 students. 6” of electrical tape 3. Show students how to make a simple circuit using a SPST switch. Students will use the following materials: battery, wire, paper, paper clips, light & brass paper Phillips Screw Driver fasteners. Scissors 4. Review the available materials, supplies, and tools for this TLA. Wire strippers 5. Review assessment/rubric for this TLA (go over grading). Hot glue gun and glue 6. Allow 5 minutes for groups to brainstorm and sketch solutions. Drawings will require teacher approval prior to constructing the solution. 7. Hand out supplies to groups. Instructional Strategies: 8. Allow approximately 40 minutes to complete the construction of the final Small Group Instruction solution. 9. Each group will demonstrate their solution for the entire class. 10.
