November 12, 2018 MEET THE NATION'S NEW SECONDS-IN-COMMAND from the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) The NLGA welcomes 22 new members to the ranks of the seconds-in-command in the states, with at least three additional new members arriving by the new year. Governor-elect Will Ainsworth served in the State House since 2014. He turned a passion for hunting and fishing into the Dream Ranch, one of the most recognized sportsmen’s lodges in the U.S., and he founded the Tennessee Valley Hunting and Fishing Expo. Elected independently of the Governor. Statutory duties of Alabama lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT KEVIN MEYER, ALASKA (R) Lt. Governor-elect Kevin Meyer has a long public service career. He was elected to the Anchorage Assembly, the State House of Representatives, and the Alaska State Senate and held various leadership positions. He is now procurement coordinator for ConocoPhillips. OF STATE-ELECT STEVE GAYNOR (R) Secretary of State-elect Steve Gaynor is the gubernatorial successor of Arizona. He has owned printing businesses in California, Colorado, and Arizona. The Secretary of State oversees elections. Elected independently of the Governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT ELENI KOUNALAKIS, CALIFORNIA (D) Lt. Governor-elect Eleni Kounalakis was Ambassador to Hungary and authored Madam Ambassador, Three Years of Diplomacy, Dinner Parties and Democracy in Budapest (2015). She has a two decade career in a California housing development firm. Elected independently of the Governor. Statutory duties of California lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT DIANNE PRIMAVERA, COLORADO (D) Lt. Governor-elect Dianne Primavera is a four time cancer survivor who served as CEO of Susan G. Komen Colorado, one of the largest such organizations in the country. She served four terms in the Colorado Legislature and is an active ballroom dancer. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Colorado lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT SUSAN BYSIEWICZ, CONNECTICUT (D) Lt. Governor-elect Susan Bysiewicz served in the State Legislature for three terms starting in 1992 and was Secretary of State from 1999 - 2011. As a business lawyer, she has helped more than fifty companies access millions of dollars in capital, expand their businesses, and create hundreds of jobs. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Connecticut lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT GEOFF DUNCAN, GEORGIA (R) Lt. Governor-elect Geoff Duncan was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2012. He is CEO for Wellview Health, a healthcare and wellness company. He is a former professional baseball pitcher with the Florida Marlins organization from 1996 through 2000. Elected independently of the Governor. Statutory duties of Georgia lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT JOSH TENORIO, GUAM (D) Lt. Governor-elect Josh Tenorio is Administrator of the Courts for the Judiciary of Guam. He has been Vice President of Guam Autospot; Associate Publisher, “GU” magazine; and Director of Business Development at Coretech International. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT JOSH GREEN, HAWAII (D) Lt. Governor-elect Josh Green served in the Hawaii State House of Representatives from 2004 - 2008, and since 2008 has served in the State Senate. He is an emergency room doctor. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Hawaii lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT JANICE MCGEACHIN, IDAHO (R) Lt. Governor-elect Janice McGeachin served as State Representative from 2002- 2012. She and her husband own and operate three businesses in the automotive industry and an Irish restaurant. Elected independently of the Governor. Statutory duties of Idaho lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT JULIANA STRATTON, ILLINOIS (D) Lt. Governor-elect Juliana Stratton began as a state representative in January of 2017. She is Director of the Center for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Juliana runs marathons and triathlons. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Illinois lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT LYNN ROGERS, KANSAS (D) Lt. Governor-elect Lynn Rogers was elected to the State Senate in 2016. Prior, Lynn served as president or vice president of the Wichita board of education for seven of his 16 years in that role. He had a 30-year career as a banker, assisting farmers and ranchers with financial planning. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Kansas lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT GARLIN GILCHRIST, MICHIGAN (D) Lt. Governor-elect Garlin Gilchrist worked at Microsoft helping build SharePoint. He helped launch a national text message program to recruit volunteers for campaigns. Garlin was the City of Detroit's first Director of Innovation & Emerging Technology and, as lieutenant governor, he'll help move the state's government into the 21st century. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Michigan lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT PEGGY FLANAGAN, MINNESOTA (D) Lt. Governor-elect Peggy Flanagan served in the House of Representatives since 2015. She is a community and political organizer and partner with The Management Center. A citizen of the White Earth Nation of Ojibwe, she serves on the boards of Native Progress, Sojourners, and the Minneapolis Foundation. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Minnesota lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT KATE MARSHALL, NEVADA (D) Lt. Governor-elect Kate Marshall was a Nevada Senior Deputy Attorney General. She was elected State Treasurer in 2006 and 2010. She is a breast cancer survivor and an attorney who runs her own legal consulting business. Elected independently of the Governor. Statutory duties of Nevada lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT HOWIE MORALES, NEW MEXICO (D) Lt. Governor-elect Howie Morales spent eleven years in the New Mexico Senate. Howie is an educator starting as a special education teacher, becoming a transition coordinator, and becoming a coach. He founded a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Chapter. Governor-elect Jon Husted is the Ohio Secretary of State, a position he has held since 2011. Prior, he served in the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives, including as Speaker of the House for four years. He was a University of Dayton All-American defensive back on the 1989 Division III National Championship Football Team. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Governor-elect Matt Pinnell and his wife grew an idea for a new baby product from their kitchen into a successful international business. He served as the Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman. Governor-elect John Fetterman has been Mayor of Braddock since 2005 bringing the city back from the verge of extinction. He is active with Big Brothers- Big Sisters, GED programs, lives in a restored car dealership, and has the zip code of his town tattooed on his arm. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of Pennsylvania lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT PAMELA EVETTE, SOUTH CAROLINA (R) Lt. Governor-elect Pamela Evette is the first South Carolina lieutenant governor elected on a ticket with the governor. She is CEO of QBS, a payroll, human resources, and benefits management company. GOVERNOR-ELECT LARRY RHODEN, SOUTH DAKOTA (R) Lt. Governor-elect Larry Rhoden served in the House of Representatives from 2001-2008, spending four years as majority leader, and moved on to the Senate. He runs a cow-calf operation and custom welding business. He served in the South Dakota National Guard, serving six years and carrying on a family legacy of military service that began in the Revolutionary War. Elected on a ticket with the Governor. Statutory duties of South Dakota lieutenant governor. LT. GOVERNOR-ELECT MANDELA BARNES, WISCONSIN (D) Lt. Governor-elect Mandela Barnes was elected to the State Assembly and served two terms. He became chair of the legislature’s Black and Latino Caucus. Over time, he worked for various political campaigns and in the office of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, becoming an organizer for M.I.C.A.H., a Milwaukee-based interfaith coalition.
