EXPIRED --- New Opportunities Request for Proposals --- EXPIRED
Electronic submission deadline: November 6, 2005 midnight Approximate Award Date: March 1, 2006/May 1, 2006
“New Opportunities” funds are intended for use by NIAID to fund new components and activities of the RCEs.
Each RCE must apply for these funds yearly. Funds received must be spent during the year awarded or be subject to carryover approval.
There are two types of ‘New Opportunities’ proposals – Intra-RCE (research within a specific RCE) and Trans-RCE (research projects or cores which include collaboration with or utilization of many other RCEs).
There is no budgetary limitation for individual applications. However, each RCE has a maximum budget of $1.5M they can request in support of Intra-RCE ‘New Opportunities’ applications.
There is no budgetary limit to the amount of Trans-RCE proposals any individual RCE is allowed to submit.
Highest priority areas: Product development related activities (Trans-RCE or individual) such as advanced proof of concept, preclinical studies, phase I testing, etc. Innovative new Trans-RCE projects. New Collaborative projects involving investigators at two or more RCEs. Trans-RCE collaborations on existing projects, e.g., establishing collaborations between related projects so work is more synergistic. Trans-RCE resources such as new scientific Cores, e.g., a GMP core, PK/PD/Tox testing, assay development. Supplements to existing projects or cores, e.g., making existing Center cores available as Trans- Center cores. Lower priority areas: Alteration and renovation (A&R) funds for facilities necessary to conduct the Center-funded research. Shared, large equipment for use within a Center or a region. Workshops or conferences for the entire Biodefense Network. Training, e.g., biosafety/biosecurity, GMP, GLP, GCP, animal care and use, etc. Immunization costs for laboratory workers. Not allowed: Additional Developmental Project or Career Development funds. Supplements to existing projects unless for specific product development activities (see above). Funds for extension of Developmental Projects beyond their current time limits. Funds to bring current Developmental Projects up to Research Project level. Supplements to projects/activities that had significant carryover funds.
