<p> MARCE</p><p>Middle-Atlantic Regional Center of Excellence FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES</p><p>EXPIRED --- New Opportunities Request for Proposals --- EXPIRED</p><p>Electronic submission deadline: November 6, 2005 midnight Approximate Award Date: March 1, 2006/May 1, 2006</p><p>“New Opportunities” funds are intended for use by NIAID to fund new components and activities of the RCEs.</p><p>Each RCE must apply for these funds yearly. Funds received must be spent during the year awarded or be subject to carryover approval. </p><p>There are two types of ‘New Opportunities’ proposals – Intra-RCE (research within a specific RCE) and Trans-RCE (research projects or cores which include collaboration with or utilization of many other RCEs).</p><p>There is no budgetary limitation for individual applications. However, each RCE has a maximum budget of $1.5M they can request in support of Intra-RCE ‘New Opportunities’ applications.</p><p>There is no budgetary limit to the amount of Trans-RCE proposals any individual RCE is allowed to submit.</p><p>Highest priority areas:  Product development related activities (Trans-RCE or individual) such as advanced proof of concept, preclinical studies, phase I testing, etc.  Innovative new Trans-RCE projects.  New Collaborative projects involving investigators at two or more RCEs.  Trans-RCE collaborations on existing projects, e.g., establishing collaborations between related projects so work is more synergistic.  Trans-RCE resources such as new scientific Cores, e.g., a GMP core, PK/PD/Tox testing, assay development.  Supplements to existing projects or cores, e.g., making existing Center cores available as Trans- Center cores. Lower priority areas:  Alteration and renovation (A&R) funds for facilities necessary to conduct the Center-funded research.  Shared, large equipment for use within a Center or a region.  Workshops or conferences for the entire Biodefense Network.  Training, e.g., biosafety/biosecurity, GMP, GLP, GCP, animal care and use, etc.  Immunization costs for laboratory workers.
