Lord of the Flies Symbolism Project

Due: Tomorrow at the end of the period

Symbols abound in William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies. Choose one symbol (either a person or an object), trace its development throughout the book, and come to a conclusion about its symbolic meaning. Illustrate your object prominently on a large sheet of paper and clearly express your interpretation of the meaning in both words and pictures. Include a bulleted list of at least four quotes (with page #s) that helped lead you to this conclusion/interpretation. Make sure to meet the following requirements:

o ______/ 2 - A clear title that reflects the symbol.

o ______/ 5 - A nice visual representation of the symbol.

o ______/ 5 - A minimum of 4 pieces of textual evidence that support the symbol’s deeper meaning.

o ______/ 10 - A one-paragraph analysis in which you discuss the object’s symbolic significance to the story.

o ______/ 5 - Obvious care, hard work, and thoughtfulness.

o ______/ 3 - Proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
