FLORAL DESIGN I, II, DE Course Syllabus and Policies Magna Vista High School, Room 58, (276) 956-2222 Mrs. Tiffany Anderson Miss Lauren Nance [email protected] [email protected] Course Description Course content covers career opportunities, floral design foundations, design applications, and the marketing of floral products. Specific design styles to be examined, by course, include mass, mass-line, line, vase, wedding, balloon, holiday, personal adornment arrangements, historical, contemporary, oriental, seasonal, floragraphy, designs for dried arrangements, novelty, special events, and sympathy work. Business aspects to be incorporated include pricing, advertising, shop design, wire services, delivery processes, professional organizations, sales techniques, and continuing education. The course also emphasizes leadership activities and opportunities to participate in FFA events. Daily Supplies * 3-Ring Binder with Paper * Pens and Pencils Assessment Procedures Course assessment will be weighted in the relationship to the amount of time spent in laboratory versus classroom activities and will include: * Daily Grades for class participation and/or lab performance * Class assignments * Unit tests/quizzes * Project based activities Make-Up Policy Daily grades are awarded for class participation and laboratory performance. Students will receive a ZERO on days that they are absent. Points may be made up during lunch or through arrangements with the instructor(s). Classroom Culture To insure a learning environment of mutual respect, the following personal behaviors are to be demonstrated daily:  Students are to be prepared, daily, for class as outlined by the instructor(s).  Students should model behavior appropriate for a business environment.  Personal integrity is expected in all situations. Cheating and theft are unacceptable.  Equipment is to be operated according to safety instructions.  The classroom and laboratory represent our "business home" and should be cared for appropriately. Student clean-up assignments are to be carried out with enthusiasm.  Respect for the learning environment is expected. This translates to attention being given during formal instruction.  Students are expected to abide by all regulations of Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT). Cellular and other electronic devices need to be kept in backpacks/purses/etc. every day unless given permission to use them for classroom instruction. Failure to do so will result in teacher confiscation and will be turned in to administration.
