Expectations/Grading Procedures for Mrs. Bellew’s 7th Grade Reading Class

Please keep this paper in your binder.

Classroom Expectations While in my classroom or under my supervision, I expect that all students will: 1. Listen quietly to teacher directions and follow the directions the first time given. 2. Respect all people and property. 3. Raise their hand to be acknowledged and allow the person who is speaking to be uninterrupted. 4. Be prepared for class with binder, pencil and reading book every day. 5. Participate in class discussions and be an active member of our class. 6. Assigned work must be:  Submitted on time  Proof read and edited for mistakes in spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization.  Good quality work.

Homework:  Regular homework for the class will be to read 20-30 minutes each night and to complete the independent reading assignments. There may be other small assignments assigned occasionally.  Each student should record their homework in the school assignment book, and can check the assignments on his/her Google calendar.  It is expected that all homework will be completed before class begins.  Typed assignments must be printed, emailed to me or shared with me on Google docs prior to class. If you need me to print the assignment for you, just ask either the day before it is due or in resource that morning (not at the beginning of class.)  Students should work on homework assignments at home, and should use spare resource time to read.  If there is anything that a student did not understand, they should come and see me during resource time and I will be happy to assist

Absences: Students are responsible for completing work missed due to an absence. Students should check the Google calendar while at home, or as soon as they return to school. They should also meet with their teachers during resource period. For pre- approved vacations, work should be requested a week before you leave.

Grades: Grades will be calculated on a points system basis and all grades will be recorded in the PowerSchool online system. Students should regularly check their grades on the PowerSchool system to ensure they are not missing any assignments. Parents will be provided with a username and password so they can also check the grades at any time. Late Assignments: Late assignments will receive a 10% deduction in points. If the assignment is more than one day late, additional points will be deducted based on degree of lateness and type of assignment. Allowances are made for absences.

Plagiarism: Plagiarism to any extent is not permitted and is considered cheating. Plagiarism of an assignment will result in a 0 for that assignment. The student will also be asked to redo the work.

“Bring Your Own Device” Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops or tablets to class. Students may use their device in class under teacher direction, or after requesting permission to use their device for a particular task.

Typing Assignments Students will be able to type many of their assignments. The following guidelines should be followed for all typed assignments. 12 size Font Times New Roman Double Spaced Header with name, period and date.
