Dear Community Leader,

As young adults, we were surprised to discover how many of our fellow students and peers have been – and continue to be – diagnosed with cancer each year. We have also learned that the financial and emotional burdens associated with the disease discourage many of these students from pursuing or completing a post-secondary education – something many people our age take for granted. In fact, 1 in 10 cancer survivors are saddled with over $25,000 in cancer-related debt, putting student-life simply out of reach.

Seven years ago, a group of us came together with the common goal of making a difference in the lives of these young cancer survivors and formed INFUSION Canada, a federally registered charity run by students and young professional volunteers. Over the years, we have found that INFUSION has become an important vehicle for young people wanting to make a difference in the lives of other young people.

Two guiding principles have focused our fundraising and soulraising efforts:

 The creation of the INFUSION Canada Bursary Program to provide young adult cancer survivors and patients with the financial means to achieve a post-secondary education.  The creation of fundraising opportunities and initiatives that engage, mentor and grow students’ life and leadership skills, as well as awareness of related cancer issues.

With over 15 fundraising initiatives generating over $180,000 within the past seven years, we are excited to continue our 8th annual INFUSION Fashion Show. We are asking you today to become a sponsor to help us improve the lives of cancer survivors by offering scholarships, bursaries and opportunities for better care. All proceeds will support young cancer survivors through our Bursary Program.

We are looking for like-minded people and companies to take up the cause and help us tap into the fun and giving spirit of our community in an effort to support young cancer survivors trying to lead a normal and fulfilling student life.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

INFUSION Canada INFUSION Canada is a federally registered Canadian charity with operating chapters in London, ON, Toronto, ON and Hamilton, ON. Our organization is made up of 100% unpaid volunteers. INFUSION focuses on fostering innovation, leadership and growth in young Canadians supporting cancer survival. Our organization encourages the active participation of patients and survivors in the recovery process by forming support groups, creating opportunities for awareness and education, and developing life and leadership skills.

We would like to be a pioneer in supporting young adult cancer survivors so they may have a long, healthy and successful life; a second chance to thrive!

INFUSION Fundraising Events Throughout the year, INFUSION hosts a series of fundraising events. Since 2003, we have raised over $180,000, with proceeds going to the creation of twenty $2,000 bursaries for cancer survivors attending post-secondary institutions across Canada, over $22,000 to the London Health Sciences Foundation and much more.

It’s great to get the word out so more people can know what cancer survivors have gone through because many people I’ve come across have been affected either directly or indirectly by cancer.”
